Role Overview
Key Purpose of Role:
Provide expert legal advice and representation in all areas of family law, ensuring clients receive exceptional service and guidance through often challenging personal situations. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering compassionate and professional legal support to clients navigating divorce, child arrangement, financial settlements and other family law matters.
Key Tasks:
- Perform fee-earning work accurately, reliably and efficiently, adhering to the department and firm’s quality standards.
- Manage a personal caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child arrangements, financial settlements, prenuptial agreements and domestic violence cases.
- Provide clear, consistent and empathetic communication and updates to clients, guiding them through the legal process with sensitivity.
- Draft, review and finalise legal documents related to family law, such as divorce petitions, consent orders, child arrangement orders and cohabitation agreements.
- Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies, including understanding relevant case law, statutes and family law regulations.
- Ensure compliance with the firm’s risk management and regulatory requirements, including the SRA Code of Conduct and SRA Accounts Rules.
- Represent clients effectively in negotiations, mediations and court proceedings, demonstrating skillful advocacy and negotiation abilities.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and fostering repeat and referral business.
- Actively engage in networking activities to promote the firm’s family law services, including attending industry events, conferences, and local community functions.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with key referral sources, including other legal professionals, financial advisors, therapists, and community organisations.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in family law and practice by attending training courses, webinars and engaging in self-study and professional development activities.
- Handle any client complaints professionally and in accordance with the firm’s procedures.

- Contribute positively at all times to the continuous improvement and profitable development of the department and the firm.
- Maintain the highest possible standard of interpersonal skills with colleagues, clients and referral sources.

- Support the development and implementation of departmental and firm-wide marketing initiatives.
- Attend department and firm meetings as required to make a positive contribution to the continuous improvement and development of the department and the firm.

- Undertake other reasonable duties related to the job purpose, as required from time to time.
Personal Specifications
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience working in family law or in a similar role within a legal setting.
- Strong understanding of family law and associated legal procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Detail-oriented with strong organisational abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Professional and client-focused attitude.
- Proficiency in using legal software and databases.
Skills & Knowledge:

- At least 3 year of post-qualification experience
- Manage a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorce proceedings, child arrangement disputes, adoption, domestic violence and more
- Conduct initial consultations with clients with the assistance of a paralegal
- Represent clients in family court proceedings, presenting evidence, making legal arguments, and advocating for their rights and interests.
- Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes without the need for protracted litigation
- Maintain open and transparent communication with clients, keeping them informed about case progress and providing regular updates.
