SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

  • Mechanic for Mammoet Heavylift Projects

  • £17.70 per hour, plus on-call bonus

  • Working in Hixon, Stafforshire with call-out travel required

Mammoet is a global leader in providing solutions for heavy lifting and transportation with an unparalleled fleet of equipment which are deployed into many sectors such as infrastructure, energy, renewables and Nuclear power. Mammoet’s Staffordshire depot are seeking a full time Mechanic to join our maintenance team where you will be working on a wide range of equipment which will include cranes, trucks, trailers, plant equipment and Scheuerle SPMT’s.

Ideally you will have HGV or Plant experience and have a good understanding of modern diesel engines, hydraulics, air systems, electrics and diagnostics. You will also be expected to be familiar with the road worthiness standards such as safety inspections, MOT preparation for our HGV fleet, and work to a high standard on all equipment types.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Ensuring the condition of equipment is in line with the applicable standards and instructions
  • Performing all-round maintenance and repair services
  • Carrying out work to a high quality, including inspection, prevention, renovation and modification
  • Completing new-build projects when required
  • Working on different types of mechanical (auxiliary) equipment related to diverse power transmission systems

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Professional level experience in maintenance operations, driver and control, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic systems. Basic level experience in rigging operations and equipment
  • English, basic proficiency verbal and written
  • Safety training and certification to Mammoet standards
  • Evidence of experience in a similar role, ideally in any/some of the following sectors: civil engineering, construction, renewables, oil and gas, offshore, ports and mining
  • Relevant work experience
  • Secondary education in mechanical engineering or automotive engineering

Job Summary

As a Mechanic/ Vehicle Technician you will be collaborating with other mechanics and engineering specialists as the primary function of this role is to maintain vehicles to the standard required by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency [VOSA] to help achieve maximum vehicle availability and efficiency. The role is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair and testing necessary to maintain all depot-based vehicles, including record keeping.


Responsibilities

  • Perform final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check all repairs.
  • Work in accordance with safe working practices as stated in the Health and Safety policy and procedures and risk assessments.
  • Provides emergency roadside services, minor repairs, and assists in vehicle recovery.
  • To ensure that all appropriate documentation and records are maintained accurately in order to satisfy the requirements of the Department of Transport Operators licence and company policies and procedures.
  • Actively and continuously improve professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in routine training sessions relevant to position and job duties.
  • Responsible for routine inspection/maintenance of all depot vehicles in accordance with established company procedure including VOSA requirements.

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge and previous experience of vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance procedures, ideally on HGV, PCV or Buses
  • Awareness and understanding of risk assessment, Health and Safety practices and Department of Transport standards.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and/or apply oral and written instructions such as complex technical instructions in maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical service publications.
  • An understanding of the standards required by VOSA and the Department of Transport.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Bus and Coach Engineering (preferred)

Hours of Work

Contracted 38 hours per week. Flexibility required for hours/days worked (including weekends) in line with operational requirements.
