About the role

As the key technologist in your product team, you’ll be hands-on in developing and maintaining data pipelines using Azure Synapse. Collaborating closely with stakeholders such as data analysts and architects, you’ll focus on integrating, consolidating, cleansing, and structuring data for analytics applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Azure Synapse Expertise: Act as the domain expert, ensuring reliable, maintainable and scalable data solutions.
  • Technical Leadership: Define tasks, support incident management, ensure quality deliverables for your team and automate manual processes.
  • Code Quality: Develop high-quality, secure, and maintainable code while promoting best practices within the team such as peer reviews, pair programming and DevOps practices.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation.
  • Scrum Participation: Shape user stories and help the team achieve sprint goals.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends and drive the adoption of relevant technologies.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior and mid-level data engineers to enhance their skills.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Experience: Strong background with Azure Synapse and the wider Azure Analytics Ecosystem.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in SQL and PySpark (Python); familiar with DevOps processes and Infrastructure as Code. Knowledge of BI tools such as Power BI.
  • Data Modelling: Skilled in data modelling (especially dimensional) and database management, including performance tuning.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of additional cloud warehousing products as we are still improving the data platform, Azure certifications, experience with Delta Lakes.

As a Senior Data Engineer you will

  • Possess a broad range of data engineering skills, with a focus on having delivered in Microsoft Azure
  • Develop good working relationships with clients on a project including interpersonal skills with both business and technical focused colleagues.
  • Experience working as a data engineer to develop performant end-to-end solutions in a collaborative team environment.
  • Delivering high-quality pieces of work, proven ability to escalate problems to client / senior team members where necessary and propose possible solutions.
  • Support building the Consulting practice through contribution to ongoing initiatives. This can include contributing to knowledge-sharing activities, and data services.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering commercial projects leveraging the above technologies.
  • Experience overseeing junior staff, including mentoring, reviewing work, and ensuring project alignment with organisational goals and standards.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Strong experience designing and delivering data solutions in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse or Fabric.
  • Expertise in SQL and Python.
  • Experience working with relational SQL databases either on premises or in the cloud.
  • Experience delivering multiple solutions using key techniques such as Governance, Architecture, Data Modelling, ETL / ELT, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing, Master Data, and BI.
  • A solid understanding of key processes in the engineering delivery cycle including Agile and DevOps, Git, APIs, Containers, Microservices and Data Pipelines.
  • Experience working with one or more of Spark, Kafka, or Snowflake

Nice to have certifications

  • DP-203 Azure Data Engineering
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate

Responsibilities:
  • Reporting into the Senior Director of Engineering, you will provide BigQuery solutions for analysing Google Analytics and media data
  • You will deliver ETL processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • You will collaborate with data analysts and marketing teams to understand data requirements and deliver insights
  • You will create and manage data pipelines to integrate multiple data sources into BigQuery
