Role overview

We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Advisor based at our Dudley site. The SHEQ Manager is responsible for ensuring that all safety, health, environmental, and quality standards are strictly adhered to across the Dudley site. This role is integral to operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and overall sustainability. The SHEQ Manager will develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive SHEQ programs to promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Develop and implement the Quality, Safety and Environment plans and operational requirements for the Dudley site as per the ASD strategy; ensuring compliance to ASD SHEQ related policies, requirements and specifications.

Lead the SHEQ activities, develop processes and drive continuous improvement lead by site management. Optimise activities so that they can positively and significantly impact SHEQ as well as business performance results.

Champion and support the site in order to ensure SHEQ compliance in all aspects, eliminating potential technical business risks and achieving excellence in the manufacturing and logistics processes. Working closely with site management and staff in order to identify all opportunities and set routines leading to process maturity and continuous performance improvement.

Define, design and implement process improvement, with the consideration of integration and alignment through all levels of the team across the Dudley site. Define and lead improvement projects aligned with business strategies and priorities. Facilitate and coach improvement teams. Monitor complex monthly process excellence performance metrics to ensure that organisational objectives in the areas of cost, efficiency, and quality are met. Utilise improvement and change management methodologies (aligned to the requirements of the business) and have appropriate levels of certification for the role.

Key responsibilities
Key responsibilities will be:

SHEQ Compliance

  • Safety First being the priority focus, work with the Dudley management team to improve the operations to world class standards and put in systems for sustainability for longer term.
  • Influence the management team by pre-assessing the site on a regular basis and developing the corrective action plans to meet ASD requirements and ensure the site is ‘audit ready’ all the time
  • Review supplier audit reports and ensure all issues reported are properly investigated, addressed through detailed corrective action plans and resolved in reasonable time and validate effectiveness of each corrective action plan.
  • Ensure continuous improvement on SHEQ compliance by working effectively with the management team to maintain international certifications and approvals e.g. ISO 9001 and National Highways Section Scheme 3B, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, BSEN 1090-1.
  • Work with management team to continuously meet SHEQ requirements, as updated from time to time by ASD.
  • Control the non-conformance / incident / accident reporting and investigation process, liaising with internal and external interested parties – in coordination with the management team.

SHEQ Improvement
  • Develop and implement an Annual Improvement Plan
  • Accelerate the improvement of SHEQ performance through ensuring mature processes and routines. Targeting the aspirational goal of 100% in SHEQ Score.
  • Ensure continuous compliance of ASD requirements and regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the performance and adjusting it as needed.

Risk Management
  • Evaluate business operational risks across the value chain processes including suppliers. Develop and implement required action plans to ensure full compliance to ASD policies and requirements so that potential risks are prevented.
  • Closely work with all colleagues to develop and implement preventive and corrective action plans and ensure their regular effectiveness evaluation.

Data Reporting
  • Work closely with the management team to ensure timely consolidation and distribution of reports to key stakeholders
  • Work with the management team and stakeholders to collect required sustainability data

Systems Implementation
  • Prioritise the implementation of the SHEQ Programs and Techniques at the site so that the cycle of continuous improvement is built in the system through 5S, SPC, OEE, TPM, etc.

Supplier Management
  • Ensure all suppliers comply with KMUK requirements
  • Support approval of suppliers

Capability Building
  • Closely work with the management team to identify training needs for employees and provide direction and support in order to achieve high standards and excellence at the site. Prioritize the development areas based on the business need.
  • Create SHEQ ownership at all levels of the site through ensuring the necessary awareness programs and management routines.

The Role:

As SHEQ manager you will provide strategic and task focused initiatives and support to the Energy Scotland business, with working knowledge of the EHV sector and working with SSEN and SPT.


Responsibilities:


As a SHEQ Manager, you will:

  • Provide support to the SMT in respect of the business strategy and associated Close the Gap plans
  • Ensure the business achieves compliance with safety, health and environmental legislation, industry and Morgan Sindall standards identifies opportunities for improvement and strives to achieve best practice
  • Lead, provide advice, support managements team, employees and those working with us in pursuit of achieving our 100% safe, sustainability goals and Perfect delivery philosophy
  • Carry out duties set out in the Morgan Sindall SHE & Sustainability policies and procedures
  • Provide leadership and coordination to the business unit SHEQ&S function and team
  • Report accurately and effectively on SHEQ&S matters
  • Provide support and identify resources in the support of PQQs and tenders working as appropriate

Already experienced as a SHEQ Manager you will have:

  • NEBOSH Diploma/ NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Safety and Health (working towards)
  • General NEBOSH Certificate
  • Construction NEBOSH Certificate (desirable)
  • Appropriate CSCS skills card
  • First Aid Basic Certificate
  • Environmental Management Systems Qualification (desirable)
  • General Management qualification (desirable)
  • Graduate IOSH Status or CMIOSH status (desirable)
  • Extensive knowledge of effective management strategies and best practice
  • Detailed knowledge of current health and safety and environmental legislation and its application in construction or traditional civil engineering project based environment
