About us
The position will be based in the Engineering Department at King’s College London. The recently re-founded Department is rapidly expanding into a world-class research and teaching department. It consists of new state-of-the-art lab facilities located in the heart of London. We are a dynamic Department with a diverse team of academics, PDRAs, and PhDs.
About the role
The purpose of the role is to develop grid-scale compressed air energy storage technologies, including system and component modelling and optimisation. The post is responsible for model development, article writing, and supporting the PI to plan and manage research.
This is a short-term 3-month full time post, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31-May-2025 from 1st March 2025.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. A PhD degree in mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, chemical engineering or related engineering discipline
2. Experiences in compressed air energy storage technology
3. Experiences in compressed thermal energy storage technology
4. Experiences in modelling and optimization
5. Experienced in team work
6. Experienced in academic writing and publications

- Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
