The Transformation Office supports the senior leadership of the university in effective strategy execution, delivering a complex set of transformation initiatives and driving sustainable improvements to our core business.

About The Role

The Senior Project Manager role is key in leading successful project delivery within the Transformation Portfolio to deliver the aims and objectives of Vision 2029. The roleholder is responsible for the day-to-day running of a number of large and complex projects to deliver to the needs of the organisation, within set budgets, timescales, and quality. You will build relationships across a wide stakeholder community, engaging with colleagues across Professional Services and faculties and with external partners. The portfolio includes a wide range of projects, and you will be required to deliver across all stages of the project lifecycle, as well as supporting broader strategic developments, benefits realisation and change management approaches. The team also contributes to the transformation agenda across the university, encouraging best practice and common standards. This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week).

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Degree Level standard or equivalent relevant experience
  • Significant, demonstrable skills and experience of project management tools and techniques including scoping, business case development, planning, controls & reporting, risk management and benefit management.
  • A recognized project management or change management qualification e.g., Prince2, PROSCI.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise and interpret information and communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Significant experience of managing, engaging and motivating teams, with an ability to liaise effectively with colleagues from different professional backgrounds.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of process review and improvement methods e,g., Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK Higher Education sector.

Overview of role

Are you a Project Manager looking to work on a wide variety of projects, wanting an opportunity to branch out of your current niche? Our Metro & Civils division here at Mott MacDonald is looking for seasoned Project Managers to join the team to oversee a range of different projects.
The Metro & Civils team encompasses 6 areas of engineering: Foundation & Geotechnics; Information Management; Ports, Coastal & Offshore; Bridges; Special Services and Tunnels. We are looking for individuals who want variety in their role, as it is likely you will work across multiple areas of the division at any given time.

As Project Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered successfully for the client and for Mott MacDonald, technically, commercially, and financially. This role is critical to our ongoing success. You will be actively involved in selecting and briefing a project team, assessing risk, preparing a project budget and the initial plan of work.
You’ll be involved in the planning and designing of multi-disciplinary transport projects as well as support or lead on bid management assisting in tenders for a variety of major projects.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Project management and coordination with other engineering disciplines

  • Design management & leading the technical delivery of consultancy services

  • Delivery of a fit-for-purpose technical solution as agreed with the client

  • Compliance with the Mott MacDonald management, quality, safety and environmental system requirements

  • Coordinate and manage contract requirements (industry standard & bespoke contracts)

  • Successful management of the client relationship, managing feedback, managing scope change and client expectations


Candidate specification

You will be a seasoned Project Manager with experience in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects from concept to construction. Ideally you will have previously worked within a design consultancy on major / multiple concurrent complex projects and are comfortable liaising with clients. You understand the design process, design risk management, construction programming, tendering process and quality assurance management. You will need to have strong leadership qualities.
Due to the nature of our business, you’ll be willing to travel internationally for projects when required.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Chartered with a relevant professional institution (or equivalent)

  • Experience project managing multi-disciplinary projects, ideally within transport

  • Familiarity with industry codes & standards

  • Strong communication, team working and problem-solving skills

A senior multi trade project manager is required to join our continually growing Defence contract. The position will require travel across sites in Somerset and Devon. Projects will involve electrical, mechanical and property maintenance works.

Working on our busy Defence contract you will work to oversee a team to effectively deliver the projects you are allocated to, not only being responsible for the delivery of the works onsite but doing this whilst keeping strict attention to quality, health and safety and compliance.

  • Effectively manage the billable works and project managers on site, labour and sub-contractors for the project setting targets / goals and ensuring they are completed effectively, safely and correctly
  • Complete progress reports for up-line submittal
  • Manage all day to day tasks with the on site project management teams on site

​We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our Marine team. The Project Manager will be tasked with co-ordinating and managing the necessary resources to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction.

Main duties will include:

  • Developing a project plan and ensure the necessary resources are organised to meet the plan. Continually monitor progress and take all necessary steps to ensure the completion date is met.
  • Developing a project budget and ensure the project is delivered within that budget
  • Ensure that all work is carried out to the client’s specifications.
  • Ensure that the project resources i.e. staff, labour, plant, materials and sub-contractors are effectively managed.
  • Liaise with clients and their agents to advise on progress and problem resolution as required.

The nature of Marine, the role is predominately office based in Antrim, but as a Project Manager, there will be a requirement to travel to oversee the project to ensure a successfully delivery for the client.
