Kier Group are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join Kier Mechanical & Electrical (KME) which is our internal MEP Self Delivery business.

This role will join a large scale, complex development in the Weybridge area where we’re delivering a new build Laboratory and Research Facility.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be joining the Kier Mechanical & Electrical team.

What can you expect for your day to day?

  • Ensure compliance with the project’s procurement strategy, including subcontract inquiries and tender reviews.
  • Manage valuations, project cashflows, and turnover forecasts, including monthly cost reports and progress records.
  • Provide legal and contractual advice on orders and changes, handling notices and subcontractor administration.
  • Drive commercial initiatives, producing margin improvement plans and supporting team members in maximizing opportunities.
  • Lead and manage junior staff, ensuring workload targets, deadlines, and commercial tasks are met and updated monthly.


What are we looking for?

In a Senior Quantity Surveyor, we’re ideally looking for:

  • Prior experience working in a Commercial role for a contractor, ideally with MEP exposure.
  • Experience with a variety of contract forms.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and part of a team.

Senior Quantity Surveyor

You will be working for a well established specialist Contractor based in the Dungannon area but with operations across the UK and Ireland. They cover a wide range of projects from Schools, Hospitals to High Rise Apartment blocks. The last 3-4 years have seen capacity increase and turnover rise.

The successful candidate will have a variety of roles and responsibilities to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget. The role will see you involve in in preparing take-offs, rating bills of quantities, helping with tender submission and monitoring costs & procurement. You will have overall responsibility for a small commercial division.

You will have at least 5-10 years working as a Quantity Surveyor and have a relevant Degree also. You will be able to manage costs and produce accurate bills of quantities, and hit deadlines.

Senior Quantity Surveyor, Eastry

Role Responsibilities

Client valuations including thorough measurement as work progresses, through to final account

Cash flow forecasts and monitoring against programme

Accurate valuation, forecasting and monitoring of site Preliminaries

Ensure full recovery and valuation of variations/instructions

Provision of timely and accurate documentation, warranties and the like, both internally and externally

Ensuring that the procurement of subcontractors is undertaken in a timely and cost effective manner

Administration of subcontractor contracts and accounts

Ensuring that payments/notices are issued in accordance with the Subcontract and Construction Act

Timely production of subcontract final accounts, including re-measurement and valuation of all variations as necessary to facilitate the optimum result

Keep the Managing Surveyor informed of the progress of both client and subcontractor accounts through to their finalisation, including the release of retentions

Compile monthly Cost/Value reconciliations and forecasts, including future risks and opportunities, and present to the senior management team

Ensure any commercial threats to projects are identified swiftly and communicated to the Managing Surveyor and all contractual notices are issued correctly and on time

Attend meetings and ensure that surveying information and cost advice is provided in an accurate, timely and proficient manner


Requirements

Surveying Degree or equivalent qualification/experience

Experience of working for a Main Contractor

Design and build experience

Excellent communication skills

Experienced in commercially managing large scale projects

About The Role

Morrison Energy Services is recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on contracts through out the South West.

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor you will be part of our Commercial Team who are responsible for actively assisting the Commercial Department and project team to maximise profit and reduce risk

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor your responsibilities will include:

  • Compile relevant information for preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales
  • Assist with the ongoing implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel at all time whilst developing lasting relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers
  • Constantly refer to the project risk management plan for thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessment. Monitor the register and any related documentation in accordance with the plan
  • Ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management. Ensure all sub-contractors and suppliers have submitted compliant quotations/enquiries/applications within the timescale required, and produce all documentation to select and secure services as well as monthly assessments, variations/CE claims and final account agreements through coaching of the Quantity Surveyor
  • Actively increase knowledge of commercial issues and contract law with a view to managing and agreeing compensation events/variations/claims
  • Actively suggest and develop processes for increased accuracy and efficiency minimising time journal and reconciliation tasks
  • Liaison with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure appropriate commercial cover is maintained
  • Assist the team and Project Manager, Engineers and Planners with regard to recovery of contract costs together with enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays and claims
  • Assist with production of monthly project financial and forecast to complete reports for analysis with Finance staff and Commercial Staff
  • Develop sound and balanced negotiating skills
  • Attend when requested handover and progress meetings
  • Help produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations
  • In accordance with our certification to the standards OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 each employee will comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current MES :-Health and Safety Policy, Quality Policy & Environmental Policy

  • Qualification in Quantity Surveying
  • Full UK Driving license
  • Knowledge of the industry would be ideal
