We’re looking for an Environmental advisor to join our Natural Resources, Nuclear and Networks team, working on the UK Power Network Alliance based in the South East.


Location
: Across the South East – some remote working available, with travel to various sites and the office required


Contra
ct: Permanent, Full-time – flexible start and finish times can be discussed


What will you be responsible for?

As an Environmental Advisor, you’ll be working within the UK Power Network Alliance team, supporting the project delivery teams to maintain environmental legal compliance and support delivery of the Kier Building for a Sustainable World Framework. Assist in maintaining conformity with Kier and client environmental management systems and support the Kier Natural Resources Nuclear & Networks business division and clients meet their sustainability targets and deliver works in line with the Kier and client Sustainability policies.

Your day to day will include:

  • Act as the first point of contact for project and design teams concerning environmental management coverage whilst assisting and leading the development of the project Environmental Management system.
  • Identify and support project teams to obtain and comply with regulatory and client requirements, and develop and facilitate environmental training.
  • Conduct environmental audits and site inspections, incident investigations and support third-party audits, and complete reports on activity, inspection findings, incidents, action plan items and KPI’s.
  • Facilitate the implimentation of the Kier Group Sustainability Framework, ensure all reporting data collected from the framework is consistently collected across sites and contracts and is submitted as required.
  • Support communication of sustainability best practice across projects, Business Divisions and the wider Kier Group, as well as attending client meetings and industry forums as required.

What are we looking for?

This role of Environmental Advisor is great for you if:

  • Clean current UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience in a similar Environmental focussed role with experience liaising with stakeholders and statutory bodies.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of statutory environmental requirements, including requirements that might relate to the following. Note that experience in all areas is not required; Ecology, Air quality; Community; Cultural heritage; Ecology and biodiversity; Health; Land quality; Landscape and visual; Socio-economics; Sound, noise and vibration; Traffic and transport; Water resources and flood risk; Waste and materials; Climate change/carbon management
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving EMS’s certified to BS EN ISO 14001.

Opportunity:

Environmental Advisor required for Rail projects in our Western region. As the Environmental Advisor you will provide subject matter expertise based on knowledge and experience to give direction, ensuring the continuous improvement of environmental performance in line with relevant standards, client expectations and the Integrated Management System (IMS).


We are seeking an ambitious and motivated individual, perhaps a recent graduate or someone with some existing professional experience. A strong interest or willingness to develop foundational knowledge in Health & Safety is essential, as this will be crucial in supporting compliance and assisting with our continued expansion into the South West region. Experience within the civil engineering industry is essential for this role, ideally coming from a main contractor background.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant industry experience
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject matter
  • Practitioner level member of IMEA (PIEMA), working towards chartered status
  • Recognised internal auditing qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of corporate strategy, values and objectives
  • Thorough knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management System and its implementation
  • Demonstrable experience of a similar role
