Join our Kidz Family, as our New Nursery Cook hours approximately 9.30 – 13.30

Role Purpose

  • .To prepare, cook and present age appropriate food to high standards in a clean, tidy, safe and pleasant environment.
  • To ensure responsibility for the effective daily management of the nursery kitchen alongside the Nursery/Deputy Nursery Manager and to have a sound knowledge of all Company policies & procedures.
  • To support the Nursery/Deputy Nursery Manager to ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed in line with Local Authority and Company procedures.
  • To embrace, understand and promote Kidz Day Nursery and to understand the role you play as part of the team to provide high levels of care and education.
  • Work in partnership with the nursery team and parents at all times to support the nurseries’ care and education provision.
  • This role requires working in collaboration with others and taking responsibility for working in line with regulatory requirements and Kidz Day Nursery policies and procedures to develop the strength and reputation of the Company
  • Performance Requirements

Keep the kitchen a clean and safe environment for the children in our care.

  • Encourage and model behaviour which is age appropriate in a child environment being professional at all times.
  • To maintain a high standard of cleanliness and food hygiene.
  • To make sure you meet the legal and Company requirements for fire, safety, health and hygiene at all times and necessary paperwork is completed.
  • Take responsibility to make sure all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to teams.
  • To respond appropriately to issues regarding confidentiality; for example, being aware of personal information regarding children.
  • Support, promote and implement policies as appropriate in your job role.
  • Work in co-operation and partnership with the nursery team and parents to encourage a healthy and nutritious diet.
  • Use nominated suppliers and ensure all deliveries are accurate and paperwork is kept up to date.
  • Work with suppliers to promote best practice within the nursery by ensuring products and supplies are appropriate for a nursery environment.
  • To be responsible and lead on any inspections relating to the kitchen area E.g. Environmental Health.
  • To take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with the Company’s Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers whenever possible.
  • Support the manager and work as a team to ensure a good or better inspection outcome.
  • Understand the importance of keeping everyone safe and the part you play in this.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach, using your initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility for getting tasks done.

Environments

  • To work alongside the Management Team to be responsible for Health & Safety Policies and Procedures at nursery.
  • To support the Management Team to ensure all paperwork is completed correctly.  Check premises daily and remove or action any potential hazards.
  • Raise any maintenance concerns to the Nursery Manager in due course and keep an ongoing record of this.
  • To ensure that you have an excellent understanding and have a working knowledge of all aspects of Health & Safety e.g. Risk Assessments, COSHH etc.
  • To promote good hygiene practices in the nursery and maintain high standards of cleanliness.

Sustainability

To support business decisions made by the Management Team to ensure sustainability is maintained.

  • To offer excellent levels of customer service to all visitors.
  • To prepare and cook enough age appropriate food for all children on a daily basis with minimum wastage.
  • Ensure the budgetary requirements are met.

General

  • Abide by Kidz Day Nursery Nursery Code of Conduct and all other Policies and Procedures at all times, maintaining a professional approach, behaviour and confidentiality at all times.
  • Act as a representative of your nursery and the Company, promoting a professional image at all times.
  • To have awareness of any legislation relating to your role.
  • Show a willingness to undertake additional roles to meet the needs of the nursery, children and colleagues.
  • Keep your job knowledge up to date through Company and external training, showing a commitment to professional development.
  • Any other duties as required by the Nursery Manager within the scope and spirit of the role.
  • To work in the nursery alongside the practitioners and with the children ,promoting heathy eating and cooking in our New Kidz Cookery club.

Job Description

Due to a change in circumstances we are looking for a cook to join our team at our Kids at heart team at our Knaresborough setting, Nidderdale nursery.

We require someone who can work Monday to Friday approximately 30 hours per week.

Duties will include preparing and cooking a hot lunch and high tea for the children. An understanding of dietary requirements is also needed to meet the needs of the children.

Knowledge and understanding of food ordering, and food hygiene is also needed to ensure the safe running of the kitchen.

Hours will be approximately 6 hours a day, this can be discussed at the interview stage, and we are open 51 weeks a year (closed Christmas week).

There is limited transport links so having transport would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

– prepare and cook meals following a 4 week rolling menu

-prepare meals that meet the dietary requirements of the children attending

-stock rotation and food ordering weekly using online ordering.

– ensuring the kitchen is kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

– Previous experience working in a kitchen environment would be beneficial

Job Title: Nursery Cook

Overview of Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • To prepare and cook healthy and nutritious meals and snacks, from approved Kidspace Nursery menu
  • To ensure all meals are ready at the correct times making sure company and setting deadlines and guidelines are met.
  • To maintain a high standard of hygiene in the kitchen.
  • To complete the weekly ordering of food
  • To maintain and clean kitchen equipment such as the oven and microwave.
  • To ensure good stock rotation in cupboards, fridges and freezers.
  • Keep accurate records of fridge and freezer temperatures.

Person Specification:

Education and Qualifications

Essential: Educated to GCSE Level (or equivalent),

Desirable: Formal Qualification in Culinary Skills such as City & Guilds or NVQ,

CIEH Level 2 in Food Safety in Catering Qualification.

First Aid

(Food hygiene training can be given)

Experience and Track Record

Desirable: One year’s experience working in the hospitality industry.

Experience working as a Chef in a childcare setting.

But most importantly a passion for cooking healthy, balanced and colourful food that children will want to taste, explore and enjoy.

Personal Qualities

Essential: Self-motivated, ability to solve problems, approachable, creative, attention to detail, Flexible, dedicated, good allergen awareness, good personal hygiene, knowledge of portion control and experience with safer food better business.
