At Kids Ahoy we have expanded our nursery, opening a brand new indoor/outdoor nursery. We are seeking a motivated and confident depute practitioner to work in a supporting role alongside the Forest Team Leader for children aged 3-5 years. This role will focus on ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum, managing essential paperwork, and contributing to an engaging learning environment for the children. This is a practitioner-based role, and the successful candidate will actively work with the team leader while independently managing the recording and tracking of the children’s learning journey. This is an extremely rewarding role for someone who thrives from working within nature, working with children aged 3-5 years and is confident with paperwork. This job will allow the right candidate to work collaboratively with our vibrant team, and take the lead with planning / explore exciting new ideas in a brand new, one of a kind, indoor/outdoor nursery based in Dumfries.
The candidate must have a real passion for outdoor learning preferably with outdoor experience to take on this challenge.
Experience of 3-5 ELC is essential.
You must be:
- Highly organised and reliable.
- Be adaptable/flexible in your day to day duties and use initiative.
- High level of communicative skills to work well with parents and other members of the team
Key responsibilities:
- Curriculum Support: Work collaboratively with the Forest Team Leader to deliver a high-quality, child-centered curriculum tailored to the 3-5 age group.
- Tracking and Monitoring: Confidently track and monitor children’s progress using Kids Ahoy’s observation, assessment, and documentation techniques.
- Planning and Observations: Conduct regular planning sessions and oversee staff observations to ensure the curriculum aligns with individual learning needs and developmental milestones.
- Paperwork Management: Take full responsibility for the management of paperwork, including learning journeys, observation records, and tracking documentation. You will have regular check ins with our manager to discuss continual improvement.
- Compliance: Ensure all documentation and practices align with nursery policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Team Collaboration: Actively support and contribute to the wider nursery team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Outdoor Learning: Embrace outdoor, nature-based learning principles to support the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of the children. Work with Alice Sharp training as well as outdoor/forest learning training from our Forest Team Leader.

Experience:
- Applicants must hold a HNC or Level 3 SVQ in Early Years
- Childcare experience with 3-5 years ELC (minimum 2 years)
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From £12.25 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
