Job Description

We are looking for 2 x Senior Nursery Practitioners to join our friendly team at Merlin House, Haywards Heath for 40 hours a week across 4 days.

Kiddie Capers, Merlin House Nursery provides stimulating and enabling environments for children aged 0-5 years old. Conveniently located near Haywards Heath train station, Kiddie Capers offers ease of access for commuting parents. With opening hours from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm, we provide flexibility to accommodate the needs of busy families. We pride ourselves on our engaging and educational outings. We believe that hands-on experiences outside the nursery walls enhance children’s learning and development. Through regular outings to local parks, libraries, and other educational venues, we expose children to new environments, fostering their curiosity and broadening their knowledge.

Main Duties

  • Ensuring that high standards of care and education are provided to the children. This includes ensuring that the following policies and procedures are upheld:
  • Staff effectively deployed throughout the nursery.
  • Fire equipment checks including smoke alarm testing.
  • Daily fire escape route checks.
  • Ensure food hygiene standards are being maintained.
  • Ensure security of the children and premises are upheld.
  • Liaising with parents/carers as appropriate.
  • Accurately maintain the nursery’s database, registers and documentation concerning health and safety and child protection.
  • Uphold the nursery’s confidentiality policy.
  • Ensure that the nursery’s planning for the individual needs of each child is maintained to a high standard.
  • Any other task that could be reasonably expected of a manager.
  • Deputise for the Nursery Manager in their absence.
  • Understand and fully implement the nursery’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the implementation and delivery of the EYFS.
  • Participate in professional development and training.
  • Mentor staff to ensure the policies and values of the nursery management are understood and implemented.
  • Share good childcare practice with colleagues, display exemplary behaviour and act as a role model to junior staff.
  • Provide high quality care and activities for children which recognise both individual and group requirements in a secure, safe and stimulating environment.
  • Organise activities, both inside and outside the nursery, which encourages creativity, development, co-ordination, independence, self-expression, and learning through play.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework (including the Safeguarding & Welfare Requirements), for guidance in your practice.
  • Work in partnership with parents and carers, recognising that parents are their children’s first educators, and encourage parental involvement in the nursery.
  • Be aware of Safeguarding issues and follow the nursery’s Safeguarding procedures.
  • Ensure close monitoring of children about whom there are concerns.
  • Work in partnership with other early years professionals and outside agencies.
  • Prepare and serve food and drinks for children, encouraging good nutrition and sociable eating.
  • Assist children with personal care, including changing nappies, assisting with potty training and other associated welfare duties.
  • Carry out on-going cleaning of the nursery, toys and equipment.
  • Fully comply with the nursery’s outings policy to ensure the safety of children outside nursery premises. Be responsible for the management of trips and outings as appropriate e.g., by deploying staff appropriately, maintaining documentation, briefing staff and parents/carers in advance, taking appropriate action to minimise any risks.
  • Uphold and carry out the duties of the post with due regard to the Nursery’s Equality and Diversity policy.
  • Co-operate in the implementation of the health and safety policy and ensure that the nursery’s practice and environment meet health and safety standards.
  • Be a nursery key holder and available out of hours to respond to emergencies.

Job Description

We’re looking for 2 x full time Senior Nursery Practitioners to work 40 hours, fully flexible at our Fishersgate setting.

At Kiddie Capers Fishersgate, we provide a stimulating and enabling environment for children aged 0-5 years old, located near the Eastbrook Manor Community Centre and Shark Park. Our nursery offers a unique outdoor space, including a surrounding field and park, where children can explore and relate their experiences to their everyday life. They can observe export and shipping boats and the power station, while enjoying the fresh air and surroundings.

Our nursery also features a wrap-around garden, providing ample space for children to be creative and let their imagination flow. We have dedicated areas for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, with a separate private entrance for the baby group. The babies spend time on the first floor in a spacious room, where they explore sensory resources, listen to stories, learn new skills, and build strong bonds with our staff. There is also a separate sleep room and dining area, as well as a transitional room for when they’re ready to move to the main building. The main building for 2 years up also have their own entrance and the main room is divided into two areas: one for 2-year-olds and another for 3-5-year-olds. This allows our experienced staff to build strong relationships with all the children in our care. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, creating activities that cater to each child’s unique needs and promoting their holistic growth across various areas of development.

  • For a Level 2 Senior, we offer a rate of £14.00 per hour (FTE salary of £29,120 based on 40 hours per week)
  • For a Level 3 Senior, we offer a rate of £14.50 per hour (FTE salary of £30,160 based on 40 hours per week)
