Job Description
We are currently seeking the perfect candidate to work 37 hours per week, based within an Infant School in Sunderland. Whilst a permanent contract is offered to work with KeyPoint, this position is offered to be placed in one school for 1 year fixed term, with the possibility of the placement being extended year on year.
About us
KeyPoint have been in operation since around late 2016. We offer an exceptional relief service to North East schools covering absence of Caretakers and Cleaning staff, primarily in the Sunderland area. We also offer long term contracts where we post one of our dedicated team in a school, to meet the schools requirements, on a year rolling basis. This vacancy is to be placed full time in one school for the duration of the contract, with the option of working additional hours at different sites, but not compulsory.
Current working pattern, split shift 6.30 – 11.30 / 3 – 6. However, exact working hours are to be negotiated, but within the hours of 6am and 6pm, to include opening and closing the site.
Monday to Friday (weekends optional & paid in addition)
Attending call outs is also an option, paid in addition but not compulsory.

Having background experience in a school caretaking role would be beneficial but is not essential as we offer full training to ensure our employees fully understand all aspects of the role and the requirements of working in schools, so they can quickly and easily ‘hit the ground running’.
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and in order to satisfy safer recruitment to work in schools, a satisfactory Enhanced DBS is required as part of pre-employment checks. An online search will also be completed for all shortlisted candidates.
Responsibilities
Duties will include, but not limited to;
- Ensuring the security of premises, carrying out security checks, opening and closing the building at specified times.
- Carrying out health and safety checks such as fire drills & legionella to ensure the school is H&S compliant.
- Maintenance duties – to carry out first line maintenance and repairs.
- Key holding duties – initial response to fire and intruder alarms, taking necessary emergency measures to ensure the site is secure.
- Ensuring adequate supplies of products (e.g. light bulb/florescent tubes, cleaning materials, toilet rolls, hand towels etc.) are available.
- Ensuring that the premise is available for out of school activities , including the setting up of equipment and / or furniture as required.
- Emptying internal/external litter bins and ensuring that the whole site is clear of litter and safe for pupils and staff to access.
- Porterage of goods and materials and movement of furniture and equipment as required.
- Cleaning of designated areas, as required such as school hall and toilets.
Requirements of the role
- Relevant experience in a caretaking environment or in a similar or related role. (DESIRABLE)
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relating to a caretaking environment. (DESIRABLE)
- Ability to carry out first line repairs and maintenance where requested.
- Ability to use a range of cleaning tools and equipment.
- Ability to plan and organise work, including effective use of own time.
- Resourceful and be able to use own initiative, without constant supervision.
- Listens, consults others and communicates clearly.
- Appropriately follows instructions to achieve set objectives.
- Reliable and keeps good time.
- Attention to detail with exceptionally high standards of work.
- Committed to the provision of quality services to achieve customer satisfaction.
- UK driving license and access to own vehicle.
