Job Description

We’re hiring for a Fabricator to join a leading manufacturer of high-grade fittings at their modernised site based in Hyde.

What’s on offer?

  • £15.00 – £15.50 per hour
  • Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 4:15pm / Friday 7:30am – 1:00pm
  • 25 days holiday (excluding bank holidays)
  • Overtime available (paid at enhanced rate)

What will you be doing as a Fabricator?

  • Setting components to achieve the drawing and planning specification
  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments
  • Working with written Work Instruction to ensure the final component conforms to the drawing and planning specification
  • Selecting appropriate tools, equipment and materials in preparation of fitting operation
  • Positioning and fastening work pieces
  • Measuring, examining, and visually inspecting components to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometres and verniers
  • Inputting production tickets on to SAP on completion of operations
  • Reporting any equipment fault or unusual occurrence
  • Meeting deadlines, be flexible dependable and time conscious and to work with minimum supervision
  • Complying with the Environmental, Health and Safety Policy and identify health and safety hazards prior to the commencement of work

What do you need?

  • Previous fabrication experience
  • Experienced in operating various fabricating machinery e.g. guillotine, bending, punching, pressing
  • Experienced in working with mild steel
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Role Purpose

To maintain continuous production and improve efficiencies safely through effectively implementing maintenance repairs and responding in a timely manner to breakdown repairs. Ensure continuous improvement methodologies are applied that improves the operational function.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To maintain Health & Safety rules and regulations.
  • To identify potential hazards/risks to the Health & Safety Manager/responsible person upon discovery.
  • To ensure all requested repairs & improvement projects are completed and reported back to your assigned supervisory engineer.
  • To assist the Engineering department in achieving its budget targets through the efficient use of materials and replacement parts.
  • To follow the correct accounting/authorisation process when ordering replacement parts.
  • Maintain and improve standards of hygiene and housekeeping in all areas of the factory including the Engineering Fabrication workshop & associated workshops / areas.
  • Ensure all Hot Work Permits and Risk assessments are in place and closed off after work has been completed.
  • Ensure steel stores / consumables are kept stocked and replenished as required.
  • Assist with routine PPM when assigned (specific training will be provided) and take part in reactive work as part of the wider engineering team.
  • Maintenance and repairs: o Welding TIG, ARC, MIG o Cutting & Grinding o Metal Forming / Bending o Drilling and Tapping o Measurements / Math’s Accuracy / Trigonometry o Fabrication ideas and development / solutions o Construct fabrication Drawings o Transfer best practice to further the development and performance of the engineering function.
