Pontefract/Hellaby based (UK wide remit)


Field based role


As our Automation Engineer, what will you be doing?

  • Contributing to the achievement of overall company objectives by ensuring the plant automation systems are available for use when required and have relevant safeguards in place, back up, training material and change management processes for example.
  • Fully participating as a member of the Central Engineering Team in achievement of internal customer satisfaction, Health and Safety, compliance, technical standards, capital budgets, performance targets and manufacturing excellence.
  • Key stakeholder of capital projects within a food manufacturing environment from concept to full handover. Can do this utilising the principles of Intersnack Work Systems and the Initiative Management Pillar.
  • Working within a dynamic and supportive engineering team, this role will provide exciting opportunities for somebody with a huge passion for automation to develop their career whilst working across two modern KP sites.

This dynamic career move will enable you to deploy and build your skills in all areas of automation, control, and instrumentation. In this role, you will develop the automation agenda, from implementing continuous improvement initiatives through to managing / installing large scale automation projects.

We’d love to hear from you if you can evidence the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • University degree or similar qualification in Engineering or similar bias. This could be covered by a craft apprenticeship and 10 plus years of practical experience
  • Experience of working within food manufacturing / production environment and/or FMCG
  • Problem solving CI experience
  • Experience of working within Project and Maintenance Engineering
  • Project Engineering and Management experience
  • Working with Quality Management Systems
  • Understanding of Project management tools
  • Cost Centre Management, Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Capital Expenditure process awareness
  • Procurement processes
  • Detailed knowledge of legislative requirements and responsibilities relating to Engineering and Food Safety

Key Responsibilities

  • The Automation engineer will drive the maintenance and improvement of automated production cells
  • build and lead technical understanding of equipment to develop the team’s technical knowledge and expertise to support problem solving & fault-finding capabilities
  • Modernise PLC platforms and integrated control systems
  • Integration of technology within new and existing systems
  • Subject matter expert for Series equipment and processes

What We’re Looking For

  • Current, valid driving license
  • Experience working in a mid to high volume manufacturing environment
  • Maintenance Trained & familiar with Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC systems
  • Ability to read, interoperate and write PLC code in various languages
  • Experience with Automation cells and semi-automated equipment including robotics
  • Comprehensive knowledge of production / manufacturing techniques
  • Experience of project management and the implementation of new products

The Role:

  • Independently manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Take ownership of projects, ensuring timely and quality delivery.

The Person:

  • Previous experience working in the Water sector is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of automation principles and procedures.
