Job Summary

As a key member of our team, reporting directly to the Commercial & Technical Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all compliance requirements for our transportation activities. This role requires a solid understanding of European drivers’ hours and geography. Your main goal will be to ensure our fleet of tractors and trailers are always roadworthy and compliant with legal standards, while effectively managing drivers’ hours and ensuring they are fully aware of their duties.

Given the nature of the events industry, flexibility is key. You may need to address issues outside typical working hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating basis.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the operations team and Fleet Manager to schedule and manage fleet inspections and MOTs.
  • Oversee driver compliance, including disciplinary procedures, defect reporting, and ensuring drivers meet all legal requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with UK and EU operators’ licences, manage driver welfare and safety, and monitor transport systems for continuous improvement.
  • Record and communicate drivers’ EU 90/180 days, maintain accurate records, and produce weekly KPIs.
  • Work closely with the Driver Trainer to implement training initiatives, monitor professional development, and review company policies.
  • Manage vehicle levy charges, record roadside enforcement actions, and ensure all trucks have the necessary European Community documentation.
  • Be the master user of Microlise software, setting up new drivers and conducting compliance audits.

Person Specification

  • An excellent level of competency in MS Excel, and experience of working with other MS packages
  • Previous experience of working within a third-party haulage environment
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and professionally over the telephone
  • CPC and International CPC advantageous
  • Proven experience of a can-do, positive attitude with the proven ability to problem solve
  • Previous experience of working in a cost driven organisation and practical knowledge of cost, budgeting, and financial control within a profit & loss environment
  • Strong and up to date knowledge of driver compliance rules and regulations
  • An ability and desire to work with detail and to be accurate in the approach to work
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • History of working with numerical and financial data with GCSE Maths at a Grade C /Level 4 or higher (desirable)
  • A knowledge of UK, European and International geography

Manulife Investment Management is currently seeking a highly skilled, motivated and experienced Compliance Manager. This position will be a broad-based role supporting distribution efforts for the EMEA business covering Private and Public Markets, with a focus on UCITS and AIFMD compliance.

You will be part of the Global Distribution Compliance team within our Compliance function. Working in a collaborative environment, you will be joining a highly motivated, diverse, international team that delivers compliance solutions for our global business initiatives. You will work closely with the Compliance officers in North America, APAC and EMEA, and with colleagues in our global wealth business units where we offer proprietary products managed by our internal investment advisory teams.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Providing specialist compliance advice to various departments within the business on the laws and regulations governing the marketing of public and private asset strategies, funds, including AIFs, within the various jurisdictions in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

  • Providing advice and guidance to sales and marketing personnel on the conduct of their sales and marketing activities and the content of any sales and promotional materials; reviewing and approving such materials.

  • Monitor and staying abreast of regulatory developments related to distribution and marketing.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs to ensure understanding and compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Assisting in Compliance reviews of existing and new distributors in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

  • Providing support to the EMEA team in the performance of compliance monitoring and policy reviews and other responsibilities as needed.

  • Develop trusted relationships with our business partners to strengthen and promote a positive culture towards compliance and ethical decision making as an integral pillar of our customer-centric strategies; drive the business areas to proactively identify and mitigate risks, and prioritize the updating of control procedures.

  • Deliver high quality regular management information reporting; incorporate data analytics to identify trends, provide insight to key stakeholders, and proactively mitigate key and/or emerging risks

  • Help to create and implement innovative policies, guidance materials and procedures global and local levels, working with compliance colleagues and other stakeholders across functions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level with a strong academic background.

  • At least 3+ years of experience in a compliance role, with focus on distribution

  • Excellent understanding of FCA or CBI and European rules and regulations.

  • Familiarity with AIFMD and UCITS compliance requirements for the sales, marketing and distribution of products.

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex regulations, to assess their interdependencies and summarize their impact for consideration by Chief Compliance Officer(s).

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate clearly with senior executives.

  • Articulate, precise with a rigorous attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task and to work well under pressure. Understanding of cross-border distribution requirements.

  • Experience and knowledge of industry best practices and the ability to translate vision into practical compliance programs which seek to mitigate risk.

  • Ability to arbitrate and resolve conflicts between internal and/or external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal background an advantage.

  • IMC qualifications an advantage.

  • Fluency in one or more European languages is desirable but not essential.

  • Multi-jurisdictional regulatory experience, within Europe and the Middle East, Latin America a plus.
