The Role

As a Qualified Tax Manager, you will provide detailed tax advise on a range of matters including corporate restructures, mergers and acquisitions, and international tax issues. You will be able to identify tax planning opportunities and risks, review and prepare corporate tax returns and ensure compliance with tax legislation. You will also have the opportunity to support the Tax Managers/Directors with a wide variety of workstreams and also assist in the development and delivery of internal training programmes. To ensure that we continuously improve you will also keep up to date with current tax legislation and best practice. You will also have responsibility for enhancing current processes and systems, while contributing to the development and implementation of new processes to improve efficiency and service quality.

Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification (e.g. ATT, CTA) is essential.
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience, with c.2 years in an in-house corporate tax role and preferably a background with a Big 4 professional services firm.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of tax legislation
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of tax software, such as Alphatax

Analytical Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and convey it in simple terms to colleagues.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal relationship building.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach.

Organizational Skills:

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented tax manager to join our team. You enjoy working with numbers and data and are eager to do tax advisory work. This role is primarily focused on UK corporation tax and supporting Maven’s wider global activities. Your contribution will allow the team to focus on deeper specialisation and expertise to match Maven’s growing operational complexity and increased tax law complexity.


Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of and manage the UK tax returns compliance and assist with the calculation of tax disclosures for the Group’s financial reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to enhance tax reporting processes and implement effective controls
  • Manage the development and maintenance of the group’s tax governance framework
  • Review transfer-pricing workings
  • Partner with tax team members and external advisors to deliver tax guidance on new business opportunities, including corporate tax, withholding taxes, and transaction taxes
  • Provide insightful tax analysis to support management decision-making
  • Conduct in-depth research on specific tax matters and monitor outcomes to ensure compliance and accuracy


Essential Attributes:

  • Hands-on experience with UK corporate tax return preparation/ tax calculations
  • A curious and analytical mindset with a commitment to continuous learning
  • Genuine interest in technology and automation, with a forward-thinking approach
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in international tax, supported by a relevant tax or accounting qualification
  • Comprehensive understanding of key tax principles across various disciplines, including corporate tax, indirect tax, and transaction taxes


Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience of presenting to stakeholders
  • Experience of consistently delivering to deadlines
  • Ability to work on own initiative with limited supervision
  • History of successfully designing and implementing new processes
  • Managing datasets using Excel, SQL, PowerQuery or similar
  • Experience and understanding of general ledger systems for data understanding and manipulation (Sun systems or similar)

What are your responsibilities for the role?

Oversight of Tax Returns: Oversee the preparation and review of personal, corporate, and partnership tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC regulations.

  • Tax Computations and Filings: Ensure timely and accurate computation of tax liabilities and submission of tax returns and payments, preventing late filing penalties.
  • Strategic Tax Planning: Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to clients, helping them to optimize their tax position and benefit from available tax reliefs and exemptions.
  • Complex Tax Issues: Address complex tax issues and transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and international tax matters.
  • HMRC Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for HMRC enquiries and investigations, representing clients and resolving disputes.
  • Client Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their business and personal tax needs.
  • Supervision and Mentoring: Supervise and mentor junior tax staff, providing training, guidance, and support to enhance their technical skills and professional development.
  • Team Coordination: Coordinate the work of the tax team to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.
  • Strategic Support: Work closely with the partners to provide strategic support on complex tax matters and contribute to the overall planning and growth of the firm’s tax services.
  • Integrated Services: Collaborate with audit and accounting teams to provide comprehensive services to clients, ensuring all aspects of their financial affairs are considered.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £37,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
