Reference Number: VAC/0125/04190

Summary
Rewarding opportunity for an individual with a passion for providing personalised support to contribute to the well-being and development of my 7 year old son.
About the role
I am seeking an assertive, fun but responsible individual to provide support for my 7 year old son.
My son is a lovely, intelligent and inquisitive child and loves to play games on his IPAD . He has a diagnosis of Autism and is finding it increasingly difficult to leave the home to visit family or access social activities due to his anxieties and struggling with social interaction and group environments.
I am looking for someone who has experience of supporting a child with ASD who is able to interact with my son and share his interest of gaming – this is his comfort zone and enables him to be relaxed, chatty and confident when he is describing the games and likes to involve people– his energy and enthusiasm when playing the games is infectious.
He does have PDA so ideally the right person will have experience and understanding of supporting a child with this .
We try to provide him with a low demand environment which helps to reduce his anxieties and sensory overload.
It is hoped that the support will be home based initially with slow steps to build up a positive and trusting relationship but once my son has made a strong connection with his PA, it is hoped that they will eventually be able to take him out in the community to socialise and increase his friendship group and interests.
This will take time so the ideal person will need to be patient – building up a trusting and encouraging relationship with him.
The role may be testing at times but would be very rewarding for the right person.
