Job Description

About Marshmallow

We started Marshmallow when we found out how unfair insurance prices are for people who move to the UK. All because the industry hasn’t given this huge cohort of people a second’s thought, and isn’t set up to price them properly.

We saw an opportunity to do things differently, so we made it our mission to back the ones who step outside the norm. Since we started, we’ve helped 100,000s of people get a fairer deal on their car insurance. Using technology, we serve people that are often overlooked by financial services companies, solving important problems for people who need it most.

We know there are millions of marginalised customers out there. And we know that they face unique problems that most companies aren’t even aware of. We believe that our future is helping these people by learning about their experiences, and building our company around their needs. And there are strong signs that there’s a need for a company like us. Earlier this year we hit profitability, which is a huge milestone, but the most exciting thing is that we’re only just getting started.

How we work

We’re really proud of the culture we’ve created. We push for progress every day, because we know that we’ll only hit big milestones by taking lots of smaller steps. We’re always open to helping our team mates, sharing our ideas, experience and knowledge to solve problems together. We take risks, think creatively and experiment relentlessly to meet our customer’s needs, and never pass blame when things go wrong. We encourage people at all levels to take ownership of their work, and to be bold in challenging how we do things. Everyone has a voice and the opportunity to make an impact.

And autonomy and ownership are only possible with clear direction. That’s why we collaborate to do in-depth planning twice a year, and make sure we leave with clear goals and objectives that flow from top to bottom. To make sure we’re as aligned as possible across functions, most of our work rolls up into four tribes; Acquisition, Retention, Claims and Pricing, Underwriting & Fraud. Each tribe has multiple teams embedded in it, working cross-functionally to do great work.

We’re so excited for all of the challenges up ahead, and we need more people to help us tackle them! If life at Marshmallow sounds like it could be for you, explore our culture handbook or read our blog to find out more.

Our Marketing team is expanding! As we invest more heavily in content, we’re looking for a Senior Content Writer to help us reach our ambitious 2025 growth goals.

As we’re just at the beginning of our content journey, we need a talented, SEO-focused writer to help us scale production — fast. The Senior Content Writer will be part of the Creative Studio within the wider Marketing team, owning the production of first-class, SEO-optimised landing pages, blogs and other content.

What you’ll be doing

  • Researching, writing and taking ownership of long-form SEO-optimised web content such as blogs and landing pages, driving organic traffic to our website and speaking to our ‘new to the UK’ audience.

  • Translating complex and jargon-based language into compelling customer content across the website, always collaborating closely with designers to optimise content for user needs.

  • Supporting the creation of a content hub within a new CMS platform that speaks to the needs and experiences of people who’ve moved to the UK.

  • Tracking performance and continually optimising our content using SEO and Analytics tools such as SEM Rush and Google Trends.

  • Contributing to keyword strategies that align with our existing content and brand strategies.

  • Adhering closely to our unique brand tone of voice in everything you write, displaying excellent written skills and a keen eye for detail.

  • Supporting the Senior Brand Copywriter with ad-hoc support on wider marketing copywriting briefs, including but not limited to CRM, video scripts, product messaging, campaigns and social.

  • Contributing to the work of a Content Guild, sharing ownership for the end-to-end customer experience with a small group across Marketing, Content Design, CRM and Customer Support.

  • Creating documentation and templates that help with the scalability of content.

What we’re looking for from you

  • You have demonstrable experience in a Mid-weight or Senior content writing role, working across multiple touch-points alongside a team of other writers and Marketing experts.

  • You have a strong understanding of SEO best practices and have experience using them to drive organic traffic. You know your way around keyword research, can build strategies and have experience using SEO tools such as SEMRush.

  • You have impeccable written skills, with a focus on long-form web content. You have a strong instinct for brand tone of voice, with an innate ability to adapt your writing style to fit specific guidelines.

  • You have an eye for content design and an awareness of basic UX and Content Design methodologies.

  • Experience working within a FinTech or a scale-up environment is a bonus but not essential.

How you’ll do it

  • Autonomy. You enjoy taking ownership in your area of expertise and have a strong bias for action when it comes to making decisions and confidently putting forward recommendations.

  • You collaborate well with a wide range of different stakeholders and thrive on receiving quality feedback to achieve the best outcomes.

  • You’re confident in being a champion for content principles and brand tone of voice within the business and you’re happy to challenge others to maintain these standards.

  • Detail-oriented. No typo is too small and you’re meticulous when it comes to grammar and house-style.

  • Low ego. You’re open to all ideas and are happy admitting when you don’t know the answer or when you’ve made a mistake. You’ll ask for support from your team and those around you to collaboratively find solutions.

  • Hybrid working
    – Spend 2-3 days a week with your team in our collaborative London office

  • Competitive bonus scheme
    – designed to reward and recognise high-performance

Plus all the rest; 33 days holiday, pension, cycle-to-work scheme, monthly team socials and company-wide socials every month!
