Post Forklift Driver and Tray Person

Reporting to Raw Materials Storage Manager

Department Backyard

Job Purpose
To ensure that the packhouse tray, pallet and carboard lines are fully stocked and maintained daily in a safe and timely manner, adhering to health and safety rules whilst maintaining high quality standards within a fast paced environment.

Main duties and responsibilities

.Ensure all procedures relating to the safe operation of forklift trucks and shunters are strictly adhered to.

· Safe removal of trays, pallets, cardboard and general packaging from lorries. This will be a combination of both using a mobile ramp and off-loading from the side of certain types of lorries.

· Transporting trays, pallets and cardboard into a warehouse and stacked neatly and to the correct height in designated rows for storage.

· Transporting packaging to the appropriate required areas and the print room.

· Ensure all procedures relating to the safe operation of mobile ramps are followed. Ramp trained (or to be trained and passed within probationary period)

· Ensure all procedures relating to the safe operation of the shunter vehicle are followed. Shunter vehicle trained (or to be trained and passed within probationary period)

· Collection and removal of trailers from backyard area to designated trailer park area.

· Ensure that packhouse lines are fully supplied and topped up throughout the working shift. This is critical, especially during peak periods and supplier promotions as it can be quite busy, so you will need a combination of speed and accuracy, whilst working to our health and safety guidelines.

· Ensure waste and used pallets are removed in a timely fashion throughout the shift from the packhouse lines area, particularly at the start and end of the shift.

· Ensure used pallets are removed from the canopy area and transported and placed in the appropriate holding area, stacked neatly and to the correct height in designated rows to await collection.

· To assist loading return pallets onto the appropriate franchised lorries.

· Ensure forklift maintenance is carried out using the daily operating checks, i.e. cleaning, water, oil, diesel and tyre pressure and any issues reported to your manager immediately.

· Undertake trailer vehicle hygiene checks are carried out on all deliveries and signed for.

· Complete paperwork is kept up to date and is completed fully and accurately i.e.: forklift check sheet, loading plans, rejects and hopper sheet.

Person Specification

· Counterbalance B1 3.5t forklift license – required

· 7 Tonne forklift/Teleporter license – desirable

· Good level of physical dexterity and mobility due to stepping on and off the forklift

· Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights

· Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season

· Ramp trained essential

· Shunter trained desirable – this forms part of the job role though training can be provided

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.42 per hour
