As the Procurement Manager, you will oversee all procurement activities, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. You will work closely with various departments to ensure the alignment of purchasing strategies with the company’s goals, and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure optimal value and performance.

The role would be focused on procurement associated with the nursing homes, located throughout the UK. This will entail every item and good required for the smooth running of a home, ranging from food, furniture, medical equipment to cutlery, stationery and cleaning products.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company’s objectives

Manage and lead the procurement processes to ensure efficient and effective sourcing

Oversee the procurement of goods and services, ensuring cost control, quality, and timely delivery

Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure favourable terms and pricing

Review contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements

Collaborate with other departments (e.g., finance, operations, and logistics) to meet business needs

Monitor market trends and industry developments to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements

Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, savings, and performance metrics

Ensure proper inventory management and minimize stock-outs or excess inventory

Ensure sustainability and ethical sourcing practices are maintained

Requirements & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field

Proven experience (5+ years) in procurement, with at least 2 years in a managerial role

Strong negotiation and vendor management skills

In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relations

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite

The role requires the successful applicant to work closely with our delivery teams throughout Scotland and with our supply chain partners across the UK, Europe and the World.


About the role –

Procurement Manager to facilitate our Energy Transmission projects in Scotland.

As a Procurement Manager you will be responsible for maximising the Supply Chain/procurement value to Morgan Sindall through the effective procurement and performance management of subcontract and materials packages, whilst working with colleagues to develop and implement the Business Unit Supply Chain Plan. Responsible for ensuring that supply chain relationships are managed and developed, and that subcontractor and supplier performance is measured and improved.

Responsibilities:

As a Procurement Manager you will:

  • Ensure that existing supply chain relationships are managed and developed.
  • Identify companies whose values align with Morgan Sindall and have the potential to be our Supply Chain Partners
  • In line with agreed work scope; undertake subcontract and/or materials procurement on a single (generally high value or long term) project or framework, or across multiple projects, ensuring best practices are followed, best value is achieved, and procurement is in line with project programmes.
  • Responsible for owning and updating project procurement schedules and reporting of buying gains/losses for their project(s)
  • Timely placement of comprehensive orders that protect the commercial interests of the business.
  • Ensure that the Morgan Sindall processes and DELAPs are adhered to.
  • Work winning – provide high quality input to prequalification and tender responses, formulate tender procurement strategies, input to tender lists, undertake and evaluate tender enquiries, support supplier / sub-contractor selection – attend pre-contract / tender meetings as required
  • Support project delivery and ensure the safety and sustainability of the Supply Chain.
  • Seek out innovations to enhance engagement and interaction with our supply chain.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the performance management of the supply chain in partnership with the delivery teams.

About the Qualifications, Skills & Experience


Qualifications –

Ideally working towards or already a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchase & Supply or other equivalent professional qualification.

Experience –The right applicant must be experienced in managing all aspects of procurement for the Energy transmission sector and large civil engineering schemes.

A working knowledge of NEC Subcontract procurement would be desirable.

Effective management and communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to motivate stakeholders to achieve a desired outcome aligned to Morgan Sindall objectives.

Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills with an ability to evaluate situations, question effectively, and identify new opportunities.

Goal-oriented with leadership and organisational skills, capable of managing others and facilitating effective planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Ability to build collaborative relationships and understand the strengths and weaknesses of our stakeholders and supply chain.

Analytical thinking to make informed decisions on supply chain/procurement issues.

Excellent networking skills with an understanding of stakeholders’ needs and expectations.

What You’ll Do

    • The role operates from within the finance team, but is highly cross-functional in its nature. The role is within the Financial Operations team, but also has direct exposure to VP Finance. Responsible include, but not limited to, the following:

The Role

The Procurement Manager is required to manage, direct and implement cost effective strategies for sourcing materials for new business and source cost reduced materials for current suppliers. You will have x1 direct report and overall procurement strategy responsibility.

Main duties include:

  • Develop, gain agreement to, manage and implement category sourcing strategies
  • Investigate and monitor supply market trends and evaluate / select appropriate suppliers who can support the business needs
  • Formally assess new suppliers against pre-defined risk assessment criteria.
  • Plan and execute data collection focussed on understanding supplier costs, capabilities and commitments
  • Evaluate objective vendor performance and take action to develop, improve or remove suppliers
  • Support the NPD process as required, taking responsibility for costing sheet compilation and management.
  • Develop proposals for review with Production Management, R&D and Quality functions, regarding supplier approvals / specification changes which will reduce risk or cost or add value.
  • Assist the business in the resolution of critical/ repetitive reject and return issues
  • Ensure that there is a formal sign off for the change of product from one supplier to another, or the introduction of a new component or supplier.
  • Establish MOQs that do not leave the company at significant risk of obsolete write offs.

What We Are Looking For

The Procurement Manager must have experience of managing high volume/value procurement within a manufacturing environment.

The Procurement Manager will ideally have/be:

  • Experience working in an FMCG business is essential.
  • Experience of working with relevant packaging materials
  • Knowledge of chemicals buying preferred.
  • CIPS qualified preferred
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Must operate in a professional and courteous manner in all dealings with both internal and external customers
