We’re on the lookout for a driven and dynamic Sales Engineer to join one of prestigious clients based near Keele!

In this role, you’ll become an expert in their engineering products, driving sales growth by upselling solutions and delivering outstanding customer service.

What you’ll be doing

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal sales enquiries
  • Learn company products and services, upsell, and prepare quotations for customers
  • Providing accurate information to customers regarding product availability, pricing, and delivery schedules
  • Conduct quotation follow-ups to ensure customer satisfaction and facilitate sales closure
  • Build rapport with customers and suppliers, promoting customer loyalty
  • Communicate effectively at all levels, from customers to senior management
  • Maintain profitable sales by identifying opportunities for upselling products and services
  • Keep system updated

Hours

Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm (flexible)

Pay

£25,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Bonuses

Skills/Experience Required

  • Previous technical sales experience, selling products or services is essential
  • Must have a valid UK driving licence
  • Experience in the engineering sector would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Must be computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook etc)
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Job Description

My client based in a rural location close to Thame is seeking a keen and dynamic Sales Engineer.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Visiting customers and discussing the best products for their requirements
  • Preparing plans with detailed drawings, including project specifications and cost estimates
  • Coordinating and leading the installation team through the project, always ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Producing quotes in Sage
  • Producing parts and builds of quantity in AutoCAD
  • Completing technical and regulatory documents
  • Sales and service work including follow up
  • Client liaison, including telephone and site visits
  • Project management, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Previous work experience in a similar role
  • Engineering degree or BTEC Level 3 or Extended diploma in Engineering
  • AutoCAD LT – 2 Dimensional Drawings; BOHS P601/P602 – desirable but not essential, training available.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, including creating and delivering presentations to clients
  • Knowledge of Sales
  • Experienced in account management and relationship building, confident communication at all levels
  • Advanced skills in critical software applications, such as AutoCAD LT 2 Dimensional Drawings
  • Microsoft Word, Access and Excel
  • Expertise in problem analysis, creative problem solving and design thinking
  • Up-to-date knowledge and technical skills required to design and operate core products and services

You will be covering the whole of the UK and visiting clients 2 or 3 times a week and there will sometimes be overnight stays required, for which hotels will be booked and allowances given.

The role is office based, and you will have access to a company vehicle for work travel.

Working Hours: 8.30am to 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch. 20 days holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays plus your birthday off. Salary £35,000 to £40,000 dependent on skills and experience.

The Role:

As a Sales Engineer, you will:

  • Engage with a diverse range of commercial customers, including public sector entities and large supermarket chains.
  • Demonstrate and sell our comprehensive range of Merridale products and services.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare tailored quotations and proposals.
  • Generate new sales enquiries and expand existing opportunities, focusing on driving new business in 2025.
  • Manage projects from initial enquiry through to completion, maintaining detailed customer information in our CRM system.
  • Attend trade shows and represent Merridale at industry events.

About You:

  • Strong background in a targeted sales environment, preferably in engineering sales with exposure to similar industries.
  • Technical knowledge is advantageous; however, comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Proactive self-starter with a technical mind and a desire to excel.
  • Confident and persuasive communicator, comfortable conducting business and demonstrations both over the phone and face-to-face.
  • Physically capable of nationwide travel and holding a clean driving license.
  • Strong IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adhering to company guidelines.
