About the role

With a strong background in the aerospace industry, in this pivotal role you will collaborate closely with the Sales & Marketing Director to drive commercial strategy and deliver results. Youll be responsible and will manage the end-to-end commercial activities for a diverse range of proposals and bids, co-ordinating internal resources and inputs and translating technical information into complaint and compelling customer proposals and contracts that align with the companys business goals and strategy. You will also be the subject matter expert in contractual preparation and negotiation.

You will be both strategic and executionally focused. Through a combination of newly developed, best-in-class products and exceptional strategy execution, Mirus is disrupting the aircraft seating market and is experiencing unprecedented growth. Mirus is now firmly established as one of the small number of go-to seating OEMs within its market sectors, and with new seat models launching in 2025 and beyond (and in market that is desperate for alternative suppliers to challenge the established players) this growth is continuing unabated. This role will be key in ensuring we meet our short and long term aspirations by balancing our resources in the optimal way possible.

The successful candidate will be residing, or be ready to relocate, to a commutable distance to our headquarters in Norfolk. Occasional travel within the UK and Internationally will be necessary to support proposals and the team as required.


Your Main Responsibilities:


In your role as our
Commercial Manager, you will:

  • Lead the evaluation and preparation of competitive tender responses for issue and presentation to customers, developing innovative commercial solutions in support of proposals.
  • Co-ordinate the inputs and draft customer proposals, RFPs (Request for Proposals) and RFI (Request for Information), delivering high-quality, compelling and timely submissions that sell the value proposition of Mirus and its products against entrenched competition.
  • Prepare, review and negotiate commercial agreements with both domestic and international customers, balancing business objectives with optimal outcomes.
  • Act as the key point of contact for all commercial and legal matters, offering innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and senior stakeholders, driving collaboration and results.
  • Support the full proposal lifecycle, including Request for Information/Pre-Qualification Questionnaires, Tendering process, Contract Award, Contract change, Contract Performance and Contract Closure, as required.
  • To support business development and sales activities for a defined group of Mirus customers, as required.
  • To be the commercial focal for M-Test, our in-house dynamic test facility as required.
  • Resolve all commercial issues promptly and effectively as point of escalation.

About you

To help Mirus continue our journey of growth, you will bring your expertise within a commercially strategic capacity and drive for operational excellence along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience of preparing and responding to detailed technical bids and tenders in an aerospace environment with compelling proposals that stand out.
  • Proven experience collecting inputs and translating it into high quality, complex proposals that sell the value proposition of the company and product.
  • Experience evaluating, drafting, negotiating the commercial and contractual aspects of complex Contracts and be comfortable running contractual negotiations when required.
  • Experience of interpreting and applying marketdata, technical information, competition intelligence, market knowledge, andcompany knowledge to optimize positioning.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of contracts, bids, and commercial governance processes.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, business principles and governing law.
  • Demonstrate success at writing compelling and winning customer proposals.
  • Experience in all aspects of international commercial contracting.
  • Be confident and able to create and conductprofessional, high quality commercial and technical presentations to our customers seniormanagement.
  • Have strong IT skills in particular MS Word,Excel and PowerPoint.


Desirable:

  • Relevant sales experience within aircraft seating; and/or cabin interiors environment would be a strong advantage
  • Experience using CRM systems
  • Other language skills

  • You are used to interfacing / working within a team of various functions, and you enjoy supporting and animating such a team.
  • Excellent communication skills verbal, written and presentational, and be able to influence at all levels internally and externally.
  • Be reliable, conscientious with sound commercial acumen, judgement and awareness.
  • A self-starter who is able to work with limited supervision. Be approachable and have a flexible attitude to growing the business and changing priorities.
  • Positive, self-motivated and the ability to work both independently and motivate a cross-functional team.

Be willing and able to undertake frequent short and long-haul travel – estimated around 50% – sometimes at short notice.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Support the day-to-day performance and trading of the Motoring Insurance channels, working with internal and external partners to deliver budget.

  • Sell promotional tenancy placements to insurance partners. Review performance to ensure deals work for users, partners, Moneysupermarket and Quidco

  • Lead commercial and contract negotiations with our insurance partners.

  • Understand market insights to highlight potential growth or new opportunities.

  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Product team to optimise the customer experience alongside our external partners.

  • Use data insights to understand current performance and identify future channel and market trends.

  • Build close working relationships with internal business partners in Finance to continually monitor the financial performance of the Motoring channels.

  • Work closely with our Marketing colleagues to identify growth opportunities for the channels and to manage day to day performance.

  • Work closely with Risk, Compliance, and Procurement to ensure third party relationships are managed in line with MSMG processes.

ABOUT YOU

  • Excellent external relationship management and negotiation skills.

  • A high level of analytical ability, able to translate data into actionable insight to generate growth and new opportunities.

  • Highly motivated to deliver channel plans and results.

  • Able to work autonomously, setting your own agenda and priorities on a day-to-day basis, while also working with the wider Insurance team.

  • Lead contractual negotiations and provide guidance to project manager and/or services manager, where necessary.
  • Manage change through the internal change management process and governance.
  • Review and acceptance of subcontractors and acceptance of subcontract documents in line with the contract.
  • Certification of payments including an assessment of defined costs for option C, E and F contracts.
  • Review forecasts prepared by the contractor (or consultants) and assess the pain share or gainshare due to the contractor in respect of Option C, or D contracts.
  • Undertake full cost analysis reviews
  • Undertake delay damages calculations if required.
  • Establish category/programme contract management strategies, and review and approve individual contract management strategies.
  • Manage KPI’s in incentive schedules within NEC Contracts and review contractor’s performance against these.
  • Manage defects process in accordance with NEC.
  • Review contractors and/or consultant’s compensation event applications, review of quotations for compensation events and subsequent assessments thereof and early warning notifications.
  • When required, review the application for payment to ensure alignment with the contractually agreed terms and conditions
