Weekend Preparatory Technician
Job Description
Microsearch Laboratories is a UKAS accredited Laboratory that has been providing analytical services to the food industry for over 30 years. We are a fast-growing company comprising of five separate laboratories based across two buildings.
We are looking for a candidate to join our team as Media Preparatory Laboratory Technician.
We have one part time position available within our media preparation department. This is mostly a manual job, weighing out powders and filling large and small bottles with a precise measurement. You’ll also make agar petri dish’s pouring molten agars by hand or manning automated equipment. The resources that the department generate are used for our in-house microbiological laboratory facilities to test and ensure that the food intended for human consumption is free from harmful bacteria and safe to eat. You will become one of the team of eight working together or in pairs across the working shift.
The main purpose of the Preparatory Laboratory Technician is to assist team to produce media of an excellent quality and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of the Analytical Laboratory, and to assist the Plate Pouring I/C to produce pre-poured agar plates for the Analytical Laboratory.
No previous experience is necessary as full training is provided. Candidates should be capable of following precise instructions accurately and have good attention to detail.
Key Duties will include:
Weighing out, making up and supplementing broths and Media
Running autoclaves
Running preparators
Hand pouring
Dispensing of ringers
Accurately Label items
Preparing supplements
Ensure the required standard of cleanliness is always maintained.
The suitable candidate will be reliable and responsible with an excellent work ethic and attention to detail. Applicants should be prepared to work in a fast paced, physical environment.
Available shifts are:
Saturday, 7.30am to 3.30pm, and Sunday, 9.30am to 5.30pm, with a 30-minute break each day.
Flexibility may be required to work earlier when needed to cover holidays.
