It was founded for farmers by farmers in 1920 and is dedicated to improving the understanding, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. Today, employees of The Moredun Group provide a wide range of services including support and administrative functions in addition to scientific research. All employees are based on the Pentlands Science Park and Firth Mains Farm.

Moredun Research Institute conducts world class scientific research on the infectious diseases of livestock, caused by important viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Working closely with farmers and vets Moredun Research Institute strives to improve livestock health and support sustainable agriculture through the development of diagnostic tests and the creation of novel vaccines to combat infectious disease.
