At Macfarlane Canine Services, all the dogs are welcomed into carefully chosen social groups of similar size, play styles and energy levels and it is the Dog Care Assistant’s responsibility to ensure that the physical and emotional needs of all the dogs in their care are met.

Dogs arrive at the Centre at 8am and go home by 6pm. Throughout the day they are supervised during an array of different social group activities that allow for natural expression of canine behaviour, including play, individual choice and the provision of rest.

Under the supportive guidance of skilled and knowledgeable industry professionals the successful candidate will learn the necessary skills required for the role, including:

– Active supervision and management of dog social groups, including anticipation of behaviours

– Physical examination and grooming of different breeds of dog

– Canine body language, dog behaviour and social group dynamics

– How to plan and implement environmental enrichment activities and reward-based training sessions

– How to prepare food and frozen Kongs, and feeding the dogs

– How to facilitate the successful introduction of each dog into the social groups

The successful candidate will:

– Understand the physical nature of the role

– Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and presentation by cleaning and disinfecting all areas within and surrounding the Centre, including toilets and reception area

– Undertake laundry duties and any other reasonable duties within the Centre

– Have the drive and determination to learn and achieve the skills to be proficient in their role and take full advantage of in-house training opportunities

– Establish good relations with clients

– Follow all Health & Safety procedures

– Follow written and verbal instructions accurately

Training will be provided by Myerscough College towards the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Animal Care, through a work-based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace.

Pay: £7.55-£12.21 per hour

£60,000 – £70,000 per year
The Opportunity
Medivet Chipstead is a well established practice based in the beautiful Surrey Green Belt. It is supported by our 24 hour hospital in Beckenham and a network of neighbouring Medivet practices.
The practice is in a prime location, which holds a high reputation in the local community. It has a strong and loyal client base and is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly team. They currently have two vets, who you will be working in close collaboration with, as well a dedicated support team. The role offers the perfect work life balance and the opportunity to be part of a stable, long running practice. You will conduct consultations, perform surgeries and manage diagnostics.
This practice has two consult rooms, a fully equipped theatre and prep room. Advanced facilities, including an X-ray room, ultrasound machine and in house lab. There is a lovely reception and waiting area along with a cat ward and dog ward.
The local region is filled with lots of fantastic vets and nurses who work together to solve cases, care for their patients and help each other to develop.

Role Accountabilities

In this role you will:
  • Deliver exceptional clinical care to your patients during consultations and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional care to your clients, giving clear updates on patients.
  • Deliver professional excellence, observing the highest standards of regulatory, practice and operational compliance.
  • Prepare tailored, accurate treatment and care plans for each patient with clear cost estimates.
  • Engage, mentor and develop your team, enhancing their skills and utilising these in the most effective way.
  • Complete clinical handover and arrange transfer of any patient needing out of hours or enhanced care.
  • Pro-actively support and share clinical best practice within and across practices and the wider Medivet community.
Your Skills and Experience
  • RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon.
  • Experienced in delivering exceptional care to both patients and clients.
  • Experienced in working effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to demonstrate clinical leadership skills.
  • Experience of implementing a progressive clinical culture.
  • Experience of supporting nurse consults and schedule 3 procedures, with an understanding of how this contributes to clinic performance and efficiency.
  • Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of every colleague.
