South East Adult Education – Éducation des Adultes du Sud-Est

Adult Education Teacher (English Only)

We are looking forward to welcoming two Adult Educators to our team for a 6-month contract (with potential to extend) to work out of our Lalande Avenue & Kendra Street classroom locations.

General Description

An Adult Education teacher’s primary goal is to help adult learners reach their academic upgrading goals, up to the CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential; high school equivalency) level, adapting to a diverse clientele while collaborating with various referral agencies.

Teacher Responsibilities

· Deliver the curriculum provided by the WorkingNB branch of the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour (DPETL) for academic adult upgrading and / or CAEC preparation.

· Conduct intake assessment of learners to accurately assess skill levels (assessments provided by WorkingNB)

· Plan, organize and supervise learning activities for students studying in class and from home

· Assess and document learner progress

· Establish and maintain scheduled contact with each distance learner, replying to communications within a 24-hour period during the Monday to Friday work week

· Monitor / evaluate distance learner progress on a weekly basis

· Complete administrative documents as needed, including maintaining records on WorkingNB’s ‘Adult Learning System’ database on a regular basis and providing periodic reports to referring agents

· Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

· Other tasks as directed by SEAE-ÉASE

Conditions of Employment

· Working alone as an individual teacher with one or more leaners

· Working at location as assigned

· Completion of a clear criminal record check

Teacher Qualifications

· Minimum of Bachelor of Education or Certificate of Adult Education

· Standard Workplace First Aid (will be provided)

· Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training (will be provided)

Skills and Experience

· Experience teaching adults

· Excellent communication and people skills

· Basic working knowledge of computers and the internet

· Ability to facilitate both individual and group learning

· Ability to use a variety of teaching / learning strategies in order to engage learners with diverse learning needs and styles

Pay: $19.59-$25.71 per hour
