Assistant Manager at our Dunmow branch

Reports to: Shop Manager/ Retail Manager and Assistant Retail Manager

Overall Summary

An Assistant Managers job is to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service and support the shop Manager throughout the store. Have full management control when covering the Managers day off and holidays. To ensure compliance in all areas of operational activity, drive sales and profitability, whilst managing.

Working Hours

34.5 hours per week

Monday, Thursday, Friday from 7.00 am until 16.15 pm

Saturday from 7.00 am until 15.45 pm

Shop Presentation/Running

· Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the shop and ensure all daily procedures are followed correctly.

· Complete temperature charts and other paperwork daily to comply with companies’ regulations.

· Make sure the shop is well presented at all times, particularly the pick-up units.

· Ensure all takeaway lines are well stocked throughout the day, to the levels set by the Retail Manager.

· Ensure any cash differences are reported directly to your Retail Manager and any differences are reported to all staff daily to minimize mistakes.

· Ensure all staff at all times are offering promotions along with upselling and provide excellent customer service.

· Ensure checks are carried out daily at the front and outside the shop to see it from a customer’s point of view.

· Refresh windows on a weekly basis.

· Ensure shops are clean and clutter free at all times and cleaning schedules are followed.

· Ensure maintenance requests are reported and Retail Manger is informed to allow them to be dealt with quickly.

· Ensure stock control of drinks crisps, paper stores, confectionary, jams etc.

· Check control system is in place and the four-hour rule is adhered to.

  • Ensure stock is handled properly, which includes lifting and carrying.

Staff

  • Ensure strict standards of health, hygiene, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.
  • Ensure contracted hours are adhered to and inform Retail Manager immediately of any changes or sickness.
  • Ensure self-cert forms are completed on the morning of staff returning to work and sent to Head Office immediately.
  • Ensure all staff are kept fully informed of new memos, instructions, or other information from Head Office.

Staff Training and Development

  • Follow on training for all new staff to include:

– Job training relating to the role that the new starter will be performing.

– Feedback daily to new staff on the quality of their work and any issues must be dealt with immediately.

– Keep Retail Managers up to date with new staff and their training.

  • Complete training sheets.
  • Assess all staff on an ongoing basis – retrain where necessary, paying particular attention to customer service, hygiene, and good working practices.
  • Monitor new staff and continue training where necessary.
  • Ensure all staff have a high level of product knowledge.

Uniforms

  • Make sure all staff are wearing clean and the correct uniform including badge, hat, and hairnet.
  • Ensure staff are smart, tidy, and not wearing jewelry or nail varnish.
  • Ensure hair is tied back in a bun or plait.

Health and Safety

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety rules as per the Health and Safety Policy and the Staff Handbook. Ensure your staff are also following these rules and procedures.

Employee Relations Support

With assistance and guidance from your Shop Manager, Retail Manager and HR Director deal swiftly with disciplinary and grievance issues if necessary.

Sales

  • Manage and motivate all staff to increase sales and ensure efficiency.
  • Ensure all staff are kept informed of special promotions, new products, displays and events and ensure they are pro-active in implementation including link selling.
  • Involve all staff in tasting new products.
  • Liaise with Manager/Retail Manager weekly to discuss shop reconciliations, sales, and takings.
  • Ensure any relevant information is relayed to all shop staff.

General

· Ensure standards for quality and customer service are met.

· Respond to customer complaints and comments in a timely and suitable manner.

· Ensure the correct amounts of staff are on the shop floor at the busiest times of day.

· Ensure an acceptable amount of takeaway is available after 2pm.
