Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Bristol or Gloucester

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced AQS who will be responsible for the day to day commercial administration of contracts as assigned to include full invoicing, cost reconciliation and reporting responsibility – particularly for high volume responsive maintenance and void contracts.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor responsibilities

  • Measure and value work for assigned contracts, ensuring margins are within agreed targets and comply with delegated authority parameters.
  • The timely and accurate composition and production of applications, invoices and final accounts.
  • Resolving measured works queries and remeasured works with clients and their representatives
  • Liaising with clients both internal and external in relation to your contract. Prepare, produce and present all required reports and documentation as requested.
  • Responsibility for the commercial reporting for the contracts assigned, including forecasting and CVR’s where applicable.
  • Supporting the Contract Manager with commercial detail and information as required.
  • Actively participate in monthly WIP review meetings.
  • Carry out measurement, application, agree/resolve disputes, invoice and resolve invoice queries to convert from WIP through to cash.
  • Effective application of cost control procedures.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Proven main contractor experience working in a commercial role
  • Knowledge and understanding of measurement and valuation including use of Schedule of Rates (NHF 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, RoS 7.0, 7.1, 7.2)
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of internal cost systems and particularly advanced in Excel, including VLOOPUP and Pivot Tables as a minimum.
  • Microsoft packages (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of SOR, Open Book, Cost Plus pricing models
  • Commercial strategy and innovation to maximise profit and cash management
  • Knowledge and understanding of claims and dispute resolution
  • Preparation and understanding of financial reports
  • Ability to manager your own time and prioritise work effectively
  • Knowledge and management of sub-contract orders and an understanding of buying and estimating processes.
  • Understanding of management accounts and forecasting
  • Commercial skills to maximise value recovery and control cost
