About the role

As an Assistant Shop Manager in Mind Retail, you’ll work alongside the Shop Manager and the wider shop team, inclusive of volunteers, to deliver sales and profit targets for your shop, where every item sold fights for mental health. The money raised from our charity shops funds Mind’s vital mental health support services, helping the 1 in 4 of us that experience a mental health problem in their lifetime.

You’ll also work with the team to produce excellent shop standards and deliver outstanding customer service – creating a hub for the local community. Our Assistant Managers also take full responsibility whilst the Shop Manager is away for the day-to-day running and overall performance of the shop.

As Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll also be invested in, and supported to grow. We actively look for opportunities to learn so we can do better for the people who need us. With development programmes and a vast programme of workshops, you’ll be able to take ownership for your own personal and professional development. You’ll be able to make a real difference and will play an important role in the fight for mental health, helping us to respond to the mental health emergency.

Job Description

Malcolm Barnecutt Bakeries employ over 270 employees in locations across Cornwall and Devon and are accredited with being one of the top 150 employers in Cornwall.

We are now recruiting for an Assistant Shop Manager to join the team in St Austell. This is a busy role working full time, including Saturdays on a rota. Playing a key supportive role to the Shop Manager in running the St Austell shop.

To start ASAP.
Interviews will be held in St Austell on Tuesday 4th February 2025.

Daily duties will include the following:

  • Opening and closing the shop
  • Creating and managing staff rotas
  • Dealing with wholesale orders
  • Staff management (with support from Head Office)
  • Cashing up
  • Assist with recruitment (with support from Head Office)
  • Serving customers in polite and professional manner
  • Providing barista services (full training will be provided)
  • Baking off pasties and other goods
  • Organising food displays ready for sale
  • Stock management – including placing daily orders on computer system
  • Unloading deliveries
  • Compliance with food hygiene and quality standards at all times
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the shop
  • Other duties as required to assist the Shop Manager with the smooth running of the shop

As a person you will require the following qualities:

  • Previous management experience (ideally in similar role)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Be flexible with shifts to help provide cover during holidays and sickness
  • Ability to lead and work well in a team
  • Enthusiastic and hardworking

As an Assistant Shop Manager in Mind Retail, you’ll work alongside the Shop Manager and the wider shop team, inclusive of volunteers, to deliver sales and profit targets for your shop, where every item sold fights for mental health. As Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll also be invested in, and supported to grow. We actively look for opportunities to learn so we can do better for the people who need us. With development programmes and a vast programme of workshops, you’ll be able to take ownership for your own personal and professional development. You’ll be able to make a real difference and will play an important role in the fight for mental health, helping us to respond to the mental health emergency.
