Here at Derian House Children’s Hospice, we have an exciting opportunity available for a Chef/Cook to join our existing team based at our Hospice in Chorley. You will join us on a permanent basis.

Derian House Children’s Hospice is proud to have been providing high-quality care to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions for the last 30 years.

The Derian House care team provides symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as short break respite care to children, young people and their families across Lancashire, South Cumbria and Greater Manchester. Supported by our dedicated community team, family support team, neonatal services and young people’s services we are able to provide a wide range of support and care in a variety of settings.

About the Chef/Cook role:

Your role as chef/cook is to assist the Catering Manager in providing a high standard of all aspects of the catering function including – food preparation, working within all Environmental and Health & Safety Guidelines, ensuring all patient’s catering needs are met, and delivering excellent customer service to all users.

Hours of Work

25 hours a week over a 7 day rota:

2 full days – 7.30am – 5.30pm

1 day – 6 hours – the hours to be worked between 7.30am – 5.30pm

The role will cover 1 weekend in 4 – hours will be 07.30- 17.30 (Saturday – Sunday) and 6 hours during the week.

Cover for holiday and sickness will also be required.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £15,600 (£23,400 per annum full time equivalent).

What we’re looking for in our Chef/Cook:

  • A positive, assertive, confident and approachable individual
  • Reliable and flexible
  • Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent – minimum level 2. C&G 706-1/2 or NVQ equivalent in Catering
  • Proven ability of preparing meals of a varied nature
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Good communication skills
