Children’s Support Worker / Personal Assistant (VAC/0125/04188)
Job Description
PERSONAL ASSISTANT REQUIRED
Job advert reference: VAC/0125/04188
My son is 9 years old and is a fun and enthusiastic child. He is a very polite, happy young man with a desire to please. He is a chatty boy and loves to receive praise from people.
He is very enthusiastic with learning and is doing well at school. He has made excellent progress with his verbal communication and likes to lead the rest of the class. He is particularly good at reading and creating video stories on his iPad. He is a strong character and is very like-able.
My son is autistic and although he has made good progress with his verbal communication, he can have difficulties in managing his feelings and emotions. He needs everything to follow a specific routine and structure and any deviation from this causes him to display challenging behaviors.
He can also become anxious with certain foods and sensitive with strong smells.
The purpose of the personal assistant role is to support my son to get out and about, try new activities, build his confidence and have the opportunity to try new things in the community that he would not do with me as his mum.
He needs assistance and motivation to exercise so the personal assistant will support him with this. He loves the water and swimming and feels that he would do this with a PA. This would enable him to socialise with others, whilst being active and getting the attention he needs.
The kind of person I’m looking for:
You must have experience of working with a child with autism and be assertive to his needs. He has poor eyesight and requires prompts to reduced chances of bumping into things/ tripping over.
My son does not have an awareness of dangers and may run off so the ideal person needs to be assertive and constantly alert – there will be a risk assessment in place that the Personal Assistant will work with when supporting my son out and about.
I am looking for someone who has a friendly disposition, a caring and calm nature and is reliable.
The ideal person will have a calm, fun and gentle approach
You must be able to support someone with a person centered approach with my child at the center of the support.
A current DBS needs to be in place, alternatively one can be provided.
What can you expect from me?
The opportunity to work in a welcoming and warm home environment.
Access to training and learning opportunities.
5.6 weeks annual leave (pro-rata)
Good rate of pay.
Access to a PA Support Programme and gives entitlement to the Blue Light card scheme
Location: Deeside, Flintshire
Days and times required:
Up to 6 hours per week – more if there are hours banked particularly in the school holidays.
The support will be required for weekends during term time and possibly a day or so in half term if I have any hours banked
Necessary Training (can be completed during induction into the role):
- PA Induction certificate which will form part of the induction into the role
- Autism Awareness
Hourly Rate:
£15.20 per hour
