Job Description Post: Cover Supervisor Purpose To challenge educational and social disadvantage in the North. Duties and Responsibilities • Cover lessons in the absence of the timetabled teacher. • In accordance with set cover work, deliver lessons which are appropriate to the age and ability of the students so as to facilitate progression in students’ learning. • Ensure that teaching is broad, balanced, relevant, motivational and appropriately differentiated in order to maximise the academic potential of all students. • Ensure that the resources required to effectively deliver the covered lessons are available. • Promote and maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and behaviour policy of the academy. • Provide feedback that moves learning forward. • Ensure that homework is set, where appropriate, and monitored. • Manage resources effectively and ensure classrooms are left tidy and ready for the next lesson. • Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and return it to the appropriate teacher / subject leader. • Provide objective and accurate feedback to the appropriate colleague on student conduct and work completion within the lesson. • Support individual students or small groups, including those with individual needs, as identified by the subject leader. • Supervise students on visits, trips and out of school activities. • Maintain records as requested by the subject leader. • Participate in the academy coaching process. • Support students throughout the day by fulfilling pastoral responsibilities. • Engage fully in the academy professional growth process to fulfil personal potential and be able to participate effectively in the implementation of the academy’s strategic big moves. • Attend meetings / training and carry out administrative tasks and duties as specified on the academy calendar. • Consistently implement all academy policies and contribute to decision-making and consultation procedures. • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the principal.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £21,004.00-£24,678.00 per year

  • To provide cover supervision for absent teachers’ classes
  • To supervise students in their work during the absence of their teacher
  • To liaise with Subject Leaders and other teaching staff within the team in which there is an absence where possible, to ensure that instructions are clarified
  • To liaise with TAs regarding individual students being supported in any class being covered
  • Administer clear instructions to the class, based on the detailed work set and actively supervise students as they are learning

  • 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including Maths and English/ Equivelants

  • Provide cover teaching for classes by delivering set work in the absence of their scheduled teacher.
  • Be able to liaise with teachers to discuss cover work set for planned absence and to provide feedback about student progress and behaviour following the covering of lessons.
  • Be able to support the use of ICT in delivering lessons and learning activities.

We view the role of cover supervisor as essential to the running of the school and the continuity of learning for young people. The team at Malet Lambert School are looking for an individual to work as a Cover Supervisor who will play a vital role in supporting our students by ensuring they are provided with high quality teaching and learning or targeted support when a member of staff is absent or unavailable.

The working hours are up to 32 hours and 40 minutes from 8:25am to 3:40pm Monday and 8:25am to 3:30pm Tuesday to Friday during the school term. You will also be paid for an additional 32 hours 40 minutes per year, which enables you to attend team meetings, training and development that sits outside your normal working hours. Your actual salary will be between £20,353.78 – £23,929.94 per annum depending on experience, and this will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year so even when it is the summer holidays, you continue to receive the same payment that month.
