Engineering Team Leader
Market Drayton Butter Plant – TF9 3SQ
4 on 4 off day shift (6AM – 6PM)

Due to internal promotion we are now recruiting for an Engineering Team Leader to join our team at our Butter Plant at Market Drayton. We’re looking for someone that has experience leading teams in high-volume, complex manufacturing environments and is motivated by the challenges it can bring.

Engineering Team Leader Key Tasks:
  • Motivation of engineering team through effective leadership and coaching and development
  • Control of contractors & maintenance suppliers through performance reviews
  • Eden apprentice mentoring
  • Support Maintenance Excellence roadmap implementation plan for site
  • Adherence to planned maintenance schedules through effective resource planning
  • Adequate plant cover, as required, through effective resource planning
  • Undertake analysis of CMMS data to assist forward planning, opportunity for equipment improvement
  • Fully support end to end PMS
  • Review maintenance activities and identify opportunities to improve cost effectiveness
  • RCA/5 why analysis/problem solving techniques.
  • Support the site and departmental 5s programme.
  • Develop maintenance improvement techniques
  • Drive and support Reliability Centred Maintenance/FMECA activities
  • To liaise with manufacturers of specialist machinery, equipment and component suppliers to promote standardisation, improvements and cost effectiveness opportunities

Your responsibilities as Engineering Team Leader:
  • People management including delivery of performance review, development and coaching of team, dealing with employee relations issues
  • Create purpose and direction around OGSM deliverables. Communicate OGSM and act as a role model for company values.
  • Ensures own activities are aligned to overall business objectives and knows how current performance impacts the bottom line
  • Collaboratively works with other teams to improve our business
  • Promote a strong safety culture at all times and compliance to current H&S standards
  • Deep knowledge of Operational Excellence , coaching team on use of the principles and tools. Encourage engineering based OE projects.
  • Utilises all available opportunities, enabling others to improve the way we do things

Skills and experience needed to be a successful Engineering Team Leader:
  • Engineering experience
  • Experience working in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Experience in working with process equipment, P&ID’s
  • Experience of managing an on-site team
  • Approachable disposition and clear communicator

Our client a Global Manufacturer based in Adlington; Lancashire is looking for a Multi Skilled Engineering Team Leader with an electrical bias. The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring 1 mechanical biased Engineer, working a rotational shift pattern, delegating tasks and responsible overall for the planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance tasks across the facility.

Please note, this is a rotational shift pattern including days, nights and weekend working.

Engineering Team Leader Responsibilities:

  • Managing 1 other engineer.
  • Controlling the In-House Preventative Maintenance System.
  • Working alongside the existing maintenance engineer as well as alone.
  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Prioritising workload with the use of in-house systems.
  • Playing an active part in site Health & Safety.
  • Review existing process, with a view to offering improvement suggestions.

Engineering Team Leader Applicant Requirements:

  • Must have completed a recognised apprenticeship program and hold an electrical qualification to level 3 as a minimum.
  • Proven experience holding a similar role as a team leader or Supervisor.
  • The successful candidate must have strong mechanical skills with the ability to work with drives, motors, pumps, pneumatic, hydraulics, conveyors, rollers.
  • Have strong mechanical and electrical fault finding and diagnostic experience.
  • Experienced with control systems including single and 3 Phase.
  • Previous experience working on PLC’s would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing facility would be highly beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering diagrams and schematics.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • IT Literate.

The Opportunity

The Maintenance team leader is a key role in prioritising and delivering the day to day KPI’s within the engineering department. The Team leader will serve as a first point of contact for both the engineering manager and other external stakeholders in engineering activities.

General duties will include maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and improving the reliability of all equipment on site as well as assisting in the planning and delivery of all the days engineering activities. The team leader will also assist in the reading, writing and implementing of Dechra QMS documentation into engineering works across site such as change controls, deviations and CAPA’s.

This role will operate in shifts, 6am – 2pm one week and 2pm – 10pm the following week.

Main Responsibilities

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Distribute and monitor the teams work to achieve the delivery of a Planned maintenance program to ensure reliability of equipment and to improve asset performance.
  • Remain up to date with the online ticketing system, ensuring the teams timely completion of work orders giving accurate and valuable detail for asset history following the functional failure.
  • Lead the department Engineering RCA (root cause analysis) to stop any issues from re-occurring.
  • Perform calibration services in accordance with work order instructions, associated procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Continuous improvement of equipment, improving safety, efficiency, changeovers and minimising downtime.
  • Ensure that all daily admin is carried out, such as the shift handover and completion of the DRM board.
  • Ensure presence at the packing and manufacturing tier 1 meetings and communicates actions back to engineering to action out.
  • Support problem solving sessions throughout site from an engineering aspect and carry out QMS documentation within documented and agreed deadlines.

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical, food or chemical industry would be desired but not required.
  • Familiar with working on production equipment including filling lines, conveyors, packaging lines, autoclaves tablet presses, granulators, WFI and heat sterilizers etc.
  • An electrical bias background would be ideal.
  • Previous experience of managing, coaching and developing colleagues would be beneficial.
  • Able to work cross functionally.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Natural ability to plan and organise.
