Overview

  • Main Purpose of the Role:

    To provide successful delivery of the estimating function to include client/professional liaison and negotiation. To ensure competitiveness by maintaining relationships with existing customers and generating new customers and business.


  • Location:

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate tender bid information and produce tender proposals which result in profitable sales.

  • Provide an estimating service within an appropriate time period and maintain good communication with the client throughout the tender process.

  • Price all works in line with current market conditions and maintain a current knowledge of the marketplace, rates and materials.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, sub-contractors and suppliers.

  • Co-ordination of detailed enquiries /assessment of quotations.

  • Attendance at review meetings as and when required.

  • Preparation of pricing schedules/bill of quantities and prelims where required.

  • Assist in PQQ submissions when required.

  • Good record-keeping for reference points on subsequent related projects.

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and maintain agreed timescales.

  • Follow-up to establish competition and their levels of submission for benchmarking and continuous improvement of service response and delivery.

  • To participate and support all Company initiatives and be compliant with procedures and requirements for ISO9001, 14001 & 45001, FSC and Investors in People Standards.

  • Any other duties required for the effective operation of the post as deemed by Management.

Experience

  • Relevant industry experience in a similar role.

  • Able to demonstrate previous experience working on commercial fit-out projects.

  • Conquest or similar computerised system.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

What do we want?

Due to growth within the business, we are searching for several Estimators to support a team of existing Estimators in preparing and sending out detailed door estimates.

Our business is built on repeat customers and therefore this role will play an integral role in the Company’s continued growth.

Duties will include:

  • Produce estimates using the Company’s quotation system in line with agreed pricing strategy
  • Manage time effectively when working on multiple estimates to ensure timely submissions of estimates to meet deadlines in line with agreed KPI’s
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients and suppliers
  • Amending and upgrading client drawings and specifications to produce accurate estimates
  • Dealing with customer enquiries over the phone and email
  • Provide the customer with suggestions for specifications to suit their budget
  • Daily liaising with the Operational and Sales teams

General Overview

The Estimator’s main duties will include creating commercial cost estimates in a timely manner, preparing submission documents, supporting the preparation of internal and external reports, and maintaining cost information in the estimating database.

Principal Tasks

  • Attend pre- and post-tender meetings as required
  • Undertake cost estimating activities as part of bid preparation process
  • Coordinate design information / commercial input for bid proposals

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Estimator to join the Pre-Construction team. We require the successful Estimator to have strong experience within the Civil’s sector.

Responsibilities

The Estimator shall be responsible for Pre-Construction Estimating, working closely and directly with internal / external clients, other disciplines and teams from project inception, accountable and responsible for all financial and estimating aspects of the projects.

The Estimator will prepare analytical cost estimates and tenders, from receipt of enquiry to tender submission and to maintain a library of reference information.

You will assist and produce priced tenders that are accurate, clearly detailed, and competitive and returned within deadlines. Maintain good relationships with prospective clients and professionals to promote further tender invitations.

The desired outcome being that the Company will achieve sufficient new work to enable continued growth in accordance with the Business Strategy. You will also be responsible for the following duties:

  • Carefully inspect tender document.
  • Researching materials, equipment and labour costs and review potential Value Engineering options.
  • Collecting quotes from material suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Planning job timescales and assess the levels of risk on a project.
  • Preparing and sub-contractor/supplier packages for sending out to the market.
  • Analysing sub-contractor/supplier quotations for the most competitive and compliant.
  • Helping with bids for new contracts and supporting buying activities.
  • Monitoring the stages of projects to ensure that costs are kept in line with forecasts.
  • Identify items to have enquiries sent out, together with specification, prelim elements and appropriate drawings.

  • Attend relevant meetings/site visits.
  • Check off all tender information on allocation of a project.
  • Prepare tender settlement sheets for project deadlines/finalisation and documents for pre- settlement with Head of Estimating.
  • Price up tenders using the Conquest Estimating System.
  • Work with the rest of the Estimating team to maintain, analyse and report on benchmark costs for all elements of the works contributing to the growth and continual improvement of the estimating team.
  • Presenting bids to management for settlement.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree or HND level with relevant work experience.
