Experienced Sewing Machinist

Job Description

We are a small family run business, producing award-winning natural and sustainable soft bedding products (including duvets, mattress toppers/mattress protectors and pillows), distributed throughout quality retailers in the UK. We also sell direct to customers through our website and over the telephone.

Our brand is well established and our customers know that they are purchasing high quality products, made in Devon, and using 100% natural, sustainable and responsibly sourced materials. The work of our sewing machinists is key to our reputation as a quality manufacturer and so obviously attention to detail is a critical part of the role.

We are looking to recruit an experienced sewing machinist/seamstress, who has specific knowledge of and experience in using industrial sewing machines, to join our busy team and support the growth of our company. The role will involve daily communication with our admin, packing and dispatch teams.

Although we are looking for applicants who wish to work full time, part time will be considered.

There is scope for advancement within the company for the right person.

Hours are 7:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday. The salary starts from £12 per hour (dependant upon experience) and will be reviewed in April 2025. Having your own transport would be an advantage as we are located in a light industrial park in Plympton, but there are local bus routes to the area where we are located.

Applicants must:

• Be positive, reliable and have a flexible and honest approach.
• Have at least TWO years’ work experience in using an industrial flatbed machine or overlocker.
• Be able to quickly and efficiently produce consistent, high quality work.
• Have an eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards at all times.
• Be able to work as part of a busy team involving other machinists but also be able to work independently and use own initiative.
• Happy to prepare work by gathering, sorting and laying up materials as required.
• Be able to competently inspect materials for flaws and maintain quality by inspecting finished products.
• Be comfortable in preparing machines by changing needles and threads, and securing any necessary attachments.
• Be able to ensure smooth operation of machines by completing maintenance checks, following instructions and notifying any malfunctions and/or need for repairs.

We are looking to recruit from the local area and so regret that we will not be responding to applicants who are currently living outside of the UK and/or do not have our minimum requirement of two years’ experience with industrial sewing machines.
