Facilities Officer
Job Description
Job Purpose: –
To provide an efficient and effective support and maintenance service to Deafblind UK’s premises ensuring general condition, health and safety, security and general appearance of the buildings and its associated grounds are maintained in accordance with the required standards.
To ensure all facilities work is undertaken to a high standard and with the people we support, their needs as people with sight and hearing loss, are at the center of what we do.
Main Duties:
To work within the facilities team to carry out various general maintenance duties ensuring the general upkeep and maintenance of premises (internally and externally) is maintained to our required standards. This includes repairs as required, fittings and the testing of systems and compliance, replacing minor parts where necessary, minor maintenance and repair work and general porterage duties using work equipment provided.
Where required (Gas, Electrical, CCTV and specialist work) source/direct existing contractors undertaking maintenance and installation work, ensuring their presence is recorded, compliant to health, safety and emergency procedures. Inspect, monitor and record works undertaken to our satisfactory standard.
To be proactively responsible for improving, maintaining, communicating an effective Health & Safety policy and culture throughout the organisation, taking account of current legislation and best practice advice.
Carry out minor redecoration work as agreed with line manager and the scheduled programs of improvements.
Carry out the preventative, planned maintenance programme and undertake routine visual inspections of the buildings, fixtures including water cooler, fittings, premises and grounds to assess for works or repairs required, and
maintain a detailed and fully costed maintenance schedule.
Manage and direct the provision of cleaning/cleaning staff member ensuring all areas are well maintained and cleaning duties are carried out as required.
To manage gardening staff/volunteers where appropriate. Ensure maintenance staff, volunteers and contractors are fully briefed on their duties and supervised accordingly.
Oversee the scheduling of gas safety inspections and testing with competent contractors, scheduling in periodic electrical fixed wire testing programs.
Carry out weekly fire alarm tests & emergency lighting testing and maintain appropriate records. Check and record meter readings.
To maintain records of Fire Certificates, Waste Transfer notes, Electrical testing, Emergency Lighting Testing, Fire Alarm Testing, Fire Door Testing, Pest Control Reports, Maintenance Service Reports, Orders and Advise Notes, PAT Register, link to HR training records.
To undertake visual checks and/or manage the relevant PAT testing process of electrical items.
Ensure the environment of the entire site is kept tidy with general gardening duties such as mowing lawn, weeding etc., ensuring pathways are clear and gritted with salt during inclement weather conditions.
Administration duties to include liaising with internal staff and external contractors through phone and email, raising orders for contracted work or purchases and record keeping for all works undertaken to ensure health, safety, security and maintenance program compliance.
Support, maintain and assist in ensuring that all relevant Health & Safety regulations are complied with the support of line manager.
To act as a key holder team & when required be responsible for unlocking or locking up of the premises.
Supporting and undertaking facilities work for the wider facilities team at the Shops in Werrington, Town Centre and Yaxley, as and when required. This will require travel from Paston to Yaxley, Town centre and Werrington in Peterborough.
Be flexible and available to respond to on call facilities queries out of hours, if required, on a rota basis.

Pay: £12.86 per hour
