Full time position

Salary Range: £34-£40k per annum, depending on experience

Downe House is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, based in the village of Cold Ash, Berkshire. Our aim is to provide pupils with a wealth of academic, pastoral and co-curricular opportunities to allow them to grow into confident young women prepared to take on the world.

We are looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role you will be responsible for managing and administering the termly billing and accounts receivable function.

Main Responsibilities

· Managing the sales ledger, including processing termly fees and extras invoices

· Accounting processes for Sales Ledger and Nominal Ledger

· Reconciliation of recharged extras to include; School trips, pupil recharges, taxi journeys

· Regular communication with debtors and debt agencies as necessary

· Month end and journal processing

· Raising ad-hoc invoices

· Application of output VAT on different supplies and interpretation of VAT legislation

About You

· AAT, ACA or ACCA qualified, or qualified to this level by experience.

· Highly computer literate, with a strong working knowledge of Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and Teams and the ability to manipulate data easily.

· Open to exploring new digital tools to drive process efficiencies.

· Demonstrating an excellent service culture, with a friendly, professional manner.

· Diplomacy, patience and clear written and spoken communication.

· Good working knowledge of VAT.

· High levels of confidentiality and professionalism.

· An interest in education and a commitment to the ethos of the school.

· Experience working with WCBS, School base, Lightyear systems (desirable)

· Experience of having worked in a school environment (desirable)

This role is a key role within Finance

Main duties of the position

To handle all of the Groups finance functions including accounting, financial reporting, financial forecasting and budgeting.

☒This is a hands-on role.

Key Responsibilities

☒Monthly management accounts and other reporting, as required

☒ Forecasting, budgeting, financial planning, cash flow and cash management.

☒ Performing / oversight of all regulatory functions, including monthly VAT return and

monthly EC sales list, and similar.

☒ Organising and managing financial audits to comply with current legislation both in

UK and overseas

☒ Management of daily accounts routines, journals, bank transactions, prepayments,

accruals, maintenance of fixed asset register, timely and controlled supplier

payments, reconciliations.

☒ Responsible for stock control ensuring strong controls are in place

☒ All Payroll and pensions administration, UK and Overseas

☒ Controlling costs and working with both budget holders look to drive efficiency and

cost savings

☒ Line management of accounts payable staff.

☒ Support senior managers providing guidance and reporting

☒ Liaison with the Company’s external accountants, to plan and complete year-ends,

tax planning, calculations and returns.

☒ Liaison with the Company’s bankers in UK and Overseas

☒ Support staff on Sage50 access and training

☒ Oversee and take responsibility for credit control

☒ Any other reasonable duties required to support the company in meeting its objectives

☒ Have due regard for PV Grading, F680 and Export Licence Controls

☒ Working to Kirintec’s ISO standards

☒ Adhere to all Kirintec processes and policies

☒ Adhere to the national security framework in accordance with Security Requirements for FSC Contractors

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Accountant to join our finance team. This position plays a key role in the Finance Team by supporting the Group Finance Director/Interim FD with month end close activities and reporting while also supporting the rest of the team in the “Day to Day” activities for both UK and European business.

  • Closing of Month End Financial Accounts by Day 3, post period end close.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and financial reporting standards.
  • Perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts (Balance sheet reconciliations).
  • Support the external audit process by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends and variances.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining financial controls and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Compile all the required information and documentation for the External Tax Consultants to meet Statutory requirements in our current operating countries and to deliver this to the agreed timetable to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Support and backfill for the wider Finance team in the day-to-day tasks such as posting purchase / sales invoices, completing banking duties and managing the shared inboxes

Critical Success Factors

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) as a financial accountant or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficient in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
