Are you looking for flexible work that allows you to make a meaningful contribution to your local community? As a Funeral Service Operative, you’ll play an important role in supporting families during challenging times, providing respectful and professional care.

With varied hours, this role offers the flexibility to fit around your other commitments, allowing you to balance work and personal life while making a real difference.

About the Role

This position provides the opportunity to support families during their time of need, helping them say goodbye to their loved ones with care and dignity. As a Funeral Service Operative, you’ll be an essential part of funeral services, ensuring everything runs smoothly and with the professionalism families expect.

While much of your work will focus on ceremonial duties, you will also assist with care tasks such as bringing the deceased into our care and preparing them for their final journey. Throughout, you’ll maintain a calm, supportive presence that families can rely on.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll undertake both ceremonial and care responsibilities, ensuring that every aspect of the service is handled with professionalism and respect. Your key duties will include:

  • Acting as a bearer, ensuring funeral services proceed smoothly and with the dignity families expect.
  • Driving funeral vehicles with care and precision, offering reassurance to families during difficult times.
  • Bringing the deceased into our care, both during and outside office hours, with sensitivity and respect.
  • Assisting with preparation tasks, such as dressing and placing the deceased into coffins, ensuring they are presented with the utmost care.
  • Maintaining funeral vehicles to ensure they remain clean, presentable, and reflect the high standards we uphold.
  • These duties are at the core of providing a professional and compassionate service that families can trust during a difficult time.

Is This the Role for You?

We’re looking for individuals who take pride in delivering exceptional ceremonial and care support with professionalism and respect. You don’t need prior experience in the funeral industry—just a commitment to providing outstanding service during life’s most challenging moments.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Holds a Full UK Manual Driving License
  • Can remain calm, composed, and professional in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Is physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy items in accordance with manual handling guidelines.
  • Provides exceptional service with empathy, care, and attention to detail.
  • Is reliable, well-presented, and committed to maintaining high standards.
  • Familiarity with the local community is preferred, but not essential.

Why Join Us?

We offer a supportive and rewarding environment where your work will have a lasting impact on the lives of families and the community. Our benefits include:

  • 22-25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays (Accrued)
  • Pension Scheme
  • Free Uniform (Including Dry Cleaning)
  • Access to Internal Permanent Career Opportunities
