About the role:

The Garment Technologist must have technical garment construction fit, testing and grading knowledge, with a love of luxury garments and close attention to detail. The ideal candidate must have experience working across Multiproduct. This team is highly collaborative and therefore you must work well in a fun, friendly team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To support the Design Team in the creation of accurate 1st prototype specs and packs for the
    Supply Base that is in line with business standards.
  • To make a positive contribution to fit sessions, proactively offering technical advice to Design
    and Buying in line with the brands standards & Golden rules.
  • To liaise with the Designer & Buyer where alterations or comments affect price, quantity, or
    the critical path.
  • To ensure that proto, fit and Gold Seals are to the specifications requested and that the
    make is in line with the brand standards & Golden Rules.
  • To communicate specifications, amendments, and size charts to the Supply Base in a clear
    and understandable language, both written and visual.
  • To deal with queries from Supply Base and to liaise with the Buyer when supplier suggestions
    or requests affect price or the critical path.
  • To ensure that garments are viable for production from a cost and quality perspective.
  • To regularly consult the critical path to ensure deadlines are met and to inform Line Manager
    where this is not possible.
  • To ensure there is a test report (base) for all cloth/ yarn, interlining, trim, artwork at the
    proto stage.
  • To ensure the relevant bulk tests & garment testing are requested, ensuring quality and costs
    are considered.
  • To ensure a wearer trial is conducted on a new fabric, high risk style/ details and action taken
    accordingly.
  • To visit the supply base when required: to develop and support new suppliers, carry out

Additional Tasks:

  • To make regular scheduled visits to the Warehouse, to support & train the team in the
    identification of poor quality/ poor manufacture/ customer abuse.
  • To make regular, scheduled shop visits in line with trends/retailers specified by Design and/
    or Buying team.
  • To review the monthly quality returns report and take the appropriate action when
    necessary.
  • To co-ordinate (with the support of the Buying team) and conduct a fit review, per season to
    ensure the brands fit is correct and consistent.
  • To contribute to the annual evaluation of the Supply Base (SWOT).
  • To prioritize own workload in line with Meetings Schedule and Critical Path
  • Build and maintain good working & professional relationships with head office, store and
    warehouse teams.

The Role:

As a Garment Technologist at Mint Velvet, you will combine your passion and drive with strong technical expertise and understanding of our brand and customer, to ensure that our products consistently exceed expectations when it comes to quality, performance and fit. You will strive to achieve the best possible quality assurance across all products within your area, supporting and advising your Design and Buying teams through every stage of product development. You are responsible for seeking and addressing feedback on product brought into the business, analysing and proactively solving problems to improve performance, as well as maintaining the highest possible standards of ethics across our supply chain.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Garment Technologist, ideally with a background in women’s softs.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage the fit sessions by working with Buying and Design teams to ensure excellent and consistent fit of product together with the best construction methods
  • Conduct a risk assessment of all products from the earliest point of development, raising and resolving any identified issues
  • Ensure that all fit and make comments are communicated clearly to suppliers
  • Standardise key blocks with the support of the Buying & Design teams to increase speed & accuracy when fitting and to potentialise product performance
  • Ensure the process of delivering high quality assurance falls in line with the critical path
  • Approve all test reports for base and bulk materials in line with company expectations
  • Approve all wash-care instructions for the business, ensuring suitability for product type
  • Maintain the PLM system with accurate and approved fibre composition, washcare and measurement details
  • Liaise with internal and external teams; including the QC team at the DC to understand and respond to quality issues, and to advise on future action
  • Conduct regular visits and reviews with the DC team to ensure best practice and to discuss any issues or improvements to current processes
  • Consistently looking for ways to improve the quality of product to exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Lead regular brainstorm sessions with the technical team, buying and design teams, to generate new ideas, improve product performance and standardise technical requirements
  • Maintain and develop strong links with the supply base ensuring a comprehensive knowledge of abilities and limitations with regard to technology and quality
  • Complete supplier reviews on a regular basis, setting clear objectives and suggesting ways to improve performance, including product and customer feedback
  • Lead on sustainable sourcing for your product area(s), in partnership with CSR, the Buyer and the Designer and collaborate with the CSR Team to ensure you are always up to speed with sustainability best practice, and ensuring that that our factories are compliant and adhering to our MV code of conduct
  • Drive team performance with the right balance of support and direction in order to ensure you deliver great results
  • Collaborate effectively with the wider Technical team and working proactively with the Buying teams to deliver department objectives
