We are looking for a Groundworker to join our team in Leeds, working on social housing contracts across Yorkshire.

About the Role

Joining our team, you’ll carry out a variety of technical service tasks within a social housing setting. You’ll manage all tools and equipment necessary for ground and building works, ensuring and materials ready prior to undertaking any tasks. Receiving and completing assigned tasks using a mobile device (with training provided), you’ll work efficiently and safely in line with best practice to achieve excellent customer experience.


About You

Candidates will have previous experience as a Groundworker and will have experience in all aspects of external works such as fencing replacements, flagging, concreting, small tarmac works, small brickwork replacements and drainage remedials. You’ll be customer focused with experience of working in both occupied and void properties and have a passion for completing high-quality repairs on time, first time.

A background in social housing would be beneficial and you must hold a valid full UK driving licence for a minimum of 12 months in addition to a CSCS Card.

More about the role:

  • Operate Company vehicles, (including HGV if suitably qualified).
  • Complete daily vehicle checks prior to use.
  • Conduct high pressure water jetting, clean-up of spills/fly tips using available resource and equipment.
  • Further Duties may include: Welding and Fabrication; Interceptor and storage tank installs, servicing, inspections (Including OFTEC) and de-commissioning; groundworks and remediation; Investigate and remediate issues with Tank and interceptor vessels, pump and probe systems; Remedial report issuing for Tank and interceptor vessels, pump and probe systems; Tank cleaning, spill response and industrial cleaning duties. Excavator certification is desirable.
  • To complete works to clients satisfaction.
  • Uplifting and offloading product and materials in the correct and compliant manner with high regard for health and safety and correct working practices.
  • Returning hard copy (RAMS, consignment notes) paperwork daily to office where required.
  • Liaison with customers on site to discuss on-going works and further Company services.
  • Surface preparation and spray lining using equipment which the postholder is trained and competent to operate.
  • Assist in the delivery of Civils (digger), ground works, construction, and remediation projects.
  • Assist in the delivery of Environmental Protection and Industrial Services works, including surface preparation and spray lining.


More about you:

  • Must possess knowledge and experience of completing RAMS documentation.
  • Previous experience of operating in a similar role / environment. (Highly advantageous)
  • Experience with Civils work (digger) desirable.
  • Due to the nature of the role and the response duties, a flexible approach to working hours is needed.
  • Willing to work away for extended periods when required, including travel, hotel stays and shift working.

Morrison Energy Services is proud to delivering both M&E and EPC projects on behalf of National Grid. We are delivering substation build and refurbishment works across England & Wales including design, project management, cable installation, building construction, switchgear installation, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.


As a Groundworker your key responsibilities will be:

  • Civil installations to existing & new build high voltage substations, inclusive of earth works, drainage, low voltage & high voltage ducting & trough systems
  • Construction of RC foundations for super grid transformers & reactors plus associated A.I.S foundations
  • Construction of concrete footpaths, hard standings, security fencing, installation of road formation, kerb lines etc
  • Operating driven plant (rollers, dumpers, excavators)Undertaking safe dig techniques (Cat & Genny)Installation of temporary works for deep drainage, (cess tanks, oil separators, pumping stations, manhole/catchpit chambers etc)
  • Receiving & control of documentation required to undertake the works (permits to excavate, hot works, daily briefs etc)
  • Receiving NG safety documents once experienced & competent to do so

Training where required will be provided by MES.


Essential Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • National Grid and/or high voltage substation experience preferred.
  • Due to company health & safety policy you must be 18+ years old.
  • Full driving licence required & transport shall be provided.
  • Previous experience in civil engineering is essential & an enthusiasm to work outdoors.
  • Ability to work in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork
  • Possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated using hand tools.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weathers
  • Ability to work within a confined space, without restriction.
  • Willing and able to undertake physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
  • Applicants must be willing to travel nationwide and stay away, as required.

Whilst working on the National Grid contract, hotel accommodation and all meals will be fully paid for.
