Job Overview
David Wood Foods Ltd, is the second fastest growing food manufacturing company across the UK, with over 20 years’ experience in the bakery business, and if one thing is clear about our company it’s that we’re passionate about baking.
We currently produce a range of quality frozen ‘bake off’ and craft bakery products encompassing Savoury Pastry, Sweet Pastry, Bread, Morning Goods and Confectionery products from seven cutting-edge bakeries around the UK.
We are excited to announce a new role within the Company for 2025. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager to oversee and enhance our organisation’s health and safety protocols. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting a safe workplace for all employees. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
48 hours per week – Monday to Friday however some flexibility will be required due to the nature of the role
Salary is competitive and dependant on experience
Company Car, laptop and company phone will be provided.
We currently have 8 sites across England and Wales (Sheerness, Newport, Spalding, Scarborough, Bolton x2, Leeds, Workington) Travel to all of these sites will be required however the successful candidate will be based at the site location based closest to home.
Key areas of responsibility
· To develop, maintain and continuously DWB’s Integrated Management System (IMS) in particular to reviewing all Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) related strategies, policies and procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices throughout DW Baking sites in accordance with relevant legislations and standards
· Inspire, motivate and advise company personnel, contractors and suppliers on SHE matters.
· Provide support and guidance on SHE matters throughout the business.
· Ensure that an audit and mentoring regime is devised, implemented and effectively provides the focus for verification of SHE policies, processes and procedures within the business including audits of suppliers are performed and are satisfactory.
· Conduct Internal Audits, assessments and inspections to verify effective implementation and conformance to legislation, standards and IMS with its policies, processes and procedures.
. Carry out training and mentoring of H/S Lead onsite to ensure they are capable and competent to undertake the internal audits.
· Maintain the company’s ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001, certifications in accordance with our IMS policies, processes and procedures.
· Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of SHE issues, whether legislative or best practice are briefed to the business and any requirements implemented
· Monitoring, measurement and recording of SHE objectives and KPI’s ensuring this information is cascaded down throughout the organisation in a timely manner.
· Compile monthly SHE Audit reports / trending data to the Group Health and Safety Manger / Site Manager to be able to inform Directors and Senior Managers and execute assigned actions in a timely manner.
· Ensure compliance to applicable legal and other statutory requirements.
· Ensure that any safety or Environmental accidents, incidents or near misses are reported immediately to the Directors and Senior Management Team and that investigations are carried out to identify the root causes and promote the lessons learned throughout the organisation.
· Managing client feedback processes including the client survey, client commendations and client complaints
· Influence at all levels and develop relationships to develop a positive SHE cultures across DWB sites.
· To ensure the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental policies are implemented consistently across the DWB sites.
· Reporting to the Main & Executive Boards on the overall SHE performance activities
· Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of SHE issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility;
· To provide accurate and clear interpretation of SHE legislation and standards, for all DWB sites.
· Provide directives and best practice to the organisation, ensuring changes to legislation, codes of practice, regulations, policies and procedures etc. are identified, communicated and implemented in an affective and timely manner.
· Produce and distribute the Group SHE Newsletter & Safety Alerts
· To be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant national legislation. To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected.
· The directors of DW Baking Limited are committed to the implementation and certification of an Integrated Management System to ISO14001, and ISO 45001 in conjunction with BRCGS -Food across all of its sites
Qualifications & Experience
· A relevant professional qualification e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice
· Level 3 in Waste and Resource Management – Land Remediation Activities desirable but not essential.
· ISO 9001, ISO14001 & ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification and experience is essential.
· Proven experience leading SHE at senior level and the ability to influence is key
. Excellent written and interpersonal skills and the ability to challenge constructively.
· Good technical and engineering understanding
· Effective team working and networking skills and the ability to work independently using own initiative.
· The ability to plan, prioritize and organize own workload.
· Extensive knowledge of effective SHE management strategies and best practice.
· Detailed knowledge of current SHE legislation and other requirements and their application in the workplace.
· Flexibility to travel throughout the UK, and the world, for extended periods at short notice.
· Full UK Driving License
