Head of Health and Safety
Job Description
MSK is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to fill the position of Head of Health & Safety within the company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading our efforts to minimise risks and ensure compliance with legal and corporate policies. Reporting to the MSK Director, this role is pivotal in maintaining MSK’s reputation for operational excellence and project delivery, meeting targets & objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the health and safety of the Company including direction, strategic development, performance, and maintenance
- Developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety policies in accordance with legal and corporate guidelines.
- Leading the H & S team ensuring that the organisation meets all agreed health and safety legislation and objectives and that appropriate risk mitigation/control measures are in place
- Managing and delivering internal and external health and safety training with service providers for employees to ensure awareness and understanding of safety practices and legislation.
- Co-ordinate in house operative training needs, developing, updating, and delivering regular training courses via teams, researching information.
- Monitoring compliance with policies, performing site H & S audits, and preparing detailed reports on findings.
- Investigate incidents and accidents to ensure the timely production of corrective and preventative action plans.
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to the organisation with regards to health and safety legislation, issues, and compliance together with all applicable organisation policies and practices including range of specialist areas, e.g., fire safety regulations, hazardous substances, noise, occupational diseases, and waste management.
- Collaborating with internal leadership and external regulatory bodies to maintain compliance standards.
- Implementing health and safety plans that comply with company policies and legislated standards.
- Overall responsibility for risk assessment, audit review, monitoring and managing health and safety within the organisation.
- Developing and maintaining documentation related to HSE initiatives, such as inspection forms and training modules.
- Direct and manage the performance and development of H & S team members, train and appraise individual team members to ensure optimum performance.
- Promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety and accident prevention within MSK.
- Direct, manage and maintain contact with internal and external “client/customers” for feedback and to obtain client/customer satisfaction.
- Compile/submit company health and safety information required for tender documentation.
Qualifications:
- Essential – Minimum NEBOSH General or Construction
- Essential – NVQ 5/ Diploma of Occupational H & S Practice
- Essential – IOSH accreditation
- Desirable – NEBOSH Fire, SMSTS, Level 3 First Aid & PASMA
- Desirable – Level 3 in Award in Education & Training (AET) previously PTTLS
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of the legal health and safety guidelines relevant to the industry
- Several years of experience in a health and safety role, ideally within the construction industry or a closely related field
- A working knowledge of ISO 14001
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
- Proficient use of HSE management software and tools

Pay: £60,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
