We are currently looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic to join our team and ensure our vehicles remain in peak and compliant condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a variety of HGVs.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Perform inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT tests.
  • Ensure all work is carried out to DVSA standards and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used.
  • Work collaboratively with the workshop team to meet deadlines.
  • Provide breakdown support onsite as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic or similar role.
  • Relevant qualifications in vehicle mechanics
  • Strong knowledge of HGV mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends if required.

Job Description

HGV Mechanic Job

We are looking for an experienced Permanent Truck Mechanic who needs to have both a good depth and breadth of knowledge of heavy motor vehicles and, preferably, will hold at least a Level 3 City & Guilds qualification or equivalent. They will be part of a small but enthusiastic, friendly, and growing team of mechanics with a focus offering excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will be great at solving problems with good verbal and written communication and a genuine pride in the work you do. This person will need to have a high level of initiative and use your knowledge to solve problems that you have never seen before, and at times, working in environments that you have never been in before. With the nature of the work involved, sound training and support will be given.

Our focus is to find someone with the right ‘Can Do’ attitude. Ideally you will tick all the boxes below, but for the right person, training and support will be given. Key responsibilities will include:

  • To perform vehicle maintenance or trouble shoot defects and carry out repairs as necessary.
  • To perform servicing and MOT preparation.
  • Carry out occasional breakdowns using company service vans.
  • Strong experience that has both breadth and depth of knowledge of trucks, trailers, engines, gearboxes, axles, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnosis and be able to use diagnostic equipment.
  • Produce details of job on a job card, service sheet and daily time log.
  • Communicate with supervisory staff regularly to keep them updated on the progress of your job
  • Be aware and responsible for Health & Safety of yourself and other employees.

Shift pattern: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

HGV mechanic

We have a full time role come available for an HGV mechanic based within our busy workshop in St Albans.

The Job Role (HGV Technician or HGV Mechanic): ·Maintain and service our Fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles whilst dealing with all contracted work vehicles to VOSA standards. ·Liaise with the Service and Parts team for updates and availability. ·Maintain health and safety in the workshop. ·Safety inspections and preparation of the vehicle for MOT.

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience of service and repair work and maintenance on Heavy Goods and Commercial Vehicles. ·A Class 1 license would be great – but not essential. ·Preferred that candidates applying for the role have minimum City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Level Three Qualification in HGV Maintenance & repair or equivalent time served

The hours of work would be Monday to Friday 45 hours per week with the option of overtime/Saturday mornings if and when this is available. The right candidate would need to have experience with using truck diagnostics, have a degree of flexibility with a can do attitude.
