Overview

We are seeking a number of dedicated and reliable Volunteer Housekeepers to join our friendly team at our Demelza Hospice based in Eltham, SE London. The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and order within our facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for all children, families, guests and staff. This position requires attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members.

9am/9.30am to midday are the preferred times. Help is especially needed at the moment on Tuesdays and Fridays, although please enquire if you are available other days.

Duties

  • Perform general cleaning tasks, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitising surfaces.
  • Ensure all areas are kept tidy and organised, including lounge areas, bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with laundry services as required, including washing, drying, and folding linens.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects.

What you will be doing

As a valued member of the team, you will supporting educational activities through your daily tasks, which includes but is not limited to;

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Ensure all areas of the nursery, including playrooms, bathrooms, outdoor area and kitchen facilities, are kept clean and sanitised to high standards.
  • Regularly inspect toys, equipment, and furniture for cleanliness and safety.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious breakfasts, snacks, and lunches for children, following dietary guidelines and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen area, including washing dishes and storing food items appropriately.
  • Manage laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and organising children’s clothing and linens.
  • Ensure that laundry facilities and equipment are maintained in good working condition.
  • Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the nursery, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and according to established policies and procedures.
  • Secure the premises at the end of the day, including locking doors and windows, and setting alarms.
  • Complete all daily checks as outlined by the management team
  • Support in the room ratios where required

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Housekeeper, you’ll work as part of a friendly and supportive team to maintain the cleanliness and beautiful presentation of the home. Your role will include:

  • Following the home’s clearning schedules and procedures.
  • Cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.
  • Restocking toiletries, towels and other essentials.
  • Using infection control procedures and maintaining work areas in each room so that they are clean, safe and free from hazards.
  • Ensuring that the home is always welcoming and comforting for our fantastic residents.
