Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Locum Sonographer to join our growing clinical team in Cardiff. As a Sonographer, scanning NHS patients, you will be responsible for performing non obstetric diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment and contribute to the well-being of our patients. Qualifications must have been completed in the UK to meet Trust requirements.
Responsibilities:
- To undertake a range of ultrasound examinations in accordance with MediServices Healthcare Ltd and National Guidelines, practicing unsupervised. Must be able to scan TA/TV, abdo, renal and testes.
- To provide a full ultrasound scanning and reporting service within your scope of practice. This will require the use of analytical and judgmental skills to provide interpretation of ultrasound images in order to provide independent written examination reports over a range of ultrasound examinations. Reports should make recommendations for further scans, assessment or referral where necessary.
- When working on Trust sites be familiar with and adhere to Trust protocols and policies.
- To request Radiologist review of proposed report where clinically appropriate, reviewing the final report as part of the commitment to CPD.
- To provide high standards of patient care in a safe, clean and tidy working environment, observing all Diagnostic Healthcare/Trust policies (as appropriate dependent upon location) and to maintain the highest professional and personal standards.
- To manage the clinic/session effectively, working with the Diagnostic Imaging Assistant to provide a timely and professional service for each patient.
- To undertake equipment and decontamination training as directed by the Trust.
- To manage unpredictable patient demands effectively – patients/relatives may be difficult, emotionally distressed and potentially aggressive.
Experience:
Essential
- Gynaecology – including transabdominal and transvaginal to assess uterus, ovaries and adnexa
- General Abdominal – including assessment of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and abdominal aorta
- Scrotal/testicular
- Renal and Bladder
Desirable
- Experience of NHS ultrasound services
- Experience working with Radis/Trophon decontamination
Qualifications:
Essential
- DCRR or BSc Undergraduate Degree in Radiography / Midwifery or equivalent
- CASE accredited Post-Graduate diploma / DMU in Medical Ultrasound
- Have an up-to-date professional portfolio
- Hold HCPC, NMC registration
Desirable
- Further professional qualifications.
- Current FMF License
Skills:
Essential
- Ability to accurately interpret and report on ultrasound scans independently
- Evidence of clinical governance work including audits and quality control
- IT Literacy
- Good organizational skills
- Full driving license
