Role Overview: As a Logistics manager, working as part of the supply chain team you will play a crucial role in supporting our logistics operations. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all aspects of the supply chain run efficiently and effectively. You will collaborate with various departments, suppliers, and carriers to coordinate shipments, track inventory, and maintain accurate records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate outbound shipments, ensuring timely delivery and receipt of goods.
  • Maintain meticulous records of inventory levels, conducting regular stock checks to prevent discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and carriers to negotiate favourable terms and secure cost-effective transportation solutions.
  • Track customers orders from reception of orders through to delivery
  • Monitor shipment schedules and resolve any logistical issues that may arise, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of shipping documentation, including invoices, and customs paperwork.
  • Work closely with the logistics team to develop and implement process improvements.
  • Liaise with customers on order tracking and expected fulfilment dates

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in logistics management or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and other systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

you will be playing a pivotal role within the operations of the company.

You will be responsible for the day to-day smooth running of the Equipment Control Departments and within the Operation as a whole, along with your self-disciplines of systems, processes, procedures within the Operation and the Company.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Logistics Manager:

  • Responsible for Developing and implementing processes to ensure the accurate check out and in, and tracking of all Equipment rental.
  • The Logistics and Distribution manager will manage a team including supervisors and coordinators, distributing workload and ensuring that procedures are all followed consistently ensuring accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Interpreting workflow from the sales team and delegating Order to be pulled to Equipment Co-ordinators
  • Work with the Account Handlers, to ensure phased delivery orders are kept up to date and allocated to the team
  • Ensuring shortages are reported and dealt with in a timely manner, and good communication is maintained from the Coordinator teams to the sales team
  • Ensuring scanning accuracy for each Equipment Despatch
  • Investigating and implementing control measures for each Equipment Despatch
  • Ensure all Quality control checks are carried out in the bay prior to despatch including checks on the appropriate packaging arrangements
  • Continuously review with the team and drive improvements in vehicle load restraint systems and security, including Shoot/working load combinations.
  • Liaise with the distribution team to ensure the correct trucks are present on the bays in a timely manner
  • Work with the late shift leader to hand over workload and ensure all next day orders are completed, and any sub hires are clearly discussed to make it to the right vehicle / bay.
  • Ensure the department resourced physically and technically at all time and all technical and infrastructure issues escalated to resolution.
  • Keep track of any changes to orders and ensure information is relayed to coordinators as jobs progress
  • Ensure a process is in place for all signed delivery paperwork, so that it is retrievable as prove of receipt for each hire.
  • Manage and drive the teams responsible for returning rental stock effectively to ensure smooth flow of equipment around the department.
  • Ensure vehicles are unloaded completely and all load straps stay with the trucks.
  • Support and encourage ideas from within your teams and support them through to completion and into becoming part of our standard operation procedures and facility.

Experience/Skills required for the Logistics Manager:

  • Previous logistics/distribution/warehouse management experience preferably within the equipment hire and rental industry
  • First line management skills, including personnel management, conflict resolution, effective communications & training/development experience.
  • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive environment.
  • IT Literate
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with the highest expectations of service and quality.
  • Committed to continual improvement and development.

The Logistics Manager role

Joining our local management team, this highly focused Logistics Manager role provides a wonderful opportunity for you to make a real impact. Taking charge of logistics operations at our largest site in Group (85,000 feet square warehouse), you will be responsible for day-to-day running of the logistics function which includes all drivers and warehouse staff (who work on a shift basis) reporting directly to you. Our logistics strategy plays a fundamental role in the success of our business, and we boast state of the art support systems and facilities, ensuring a first-class distribution service is provided to our customers. You will join the regional management team and help contribute to shaping the continued success of the Heywood site, responsible for delivering operational excellence via management of the logistics team and ensuring KPIs are exceeded.

Logistics Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a diverse team including Supervisors, Warehouse Operatives, and Drivers.
  • Set clear targets and conduct regular performance assessments to ensure team effectiveness.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching opportunities to enhance team performance and individual growth.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing the Central Logistics strategy aligned with organisational goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimisation.
  • Oversee all logistics operations including material receipt, storage, and dispatch.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling of deliveries, aiming for a 24/48-hour service.
  • Monitor logistics costs and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Optimise resource utilisation to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist the Regional Business Manager in implementing the Performance Improvement process.
  • Ensure resources are available for stock counts to maintain inventory accuracy.

  • Implement safety protocols to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulations.

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of full logistics management role including fleet compliance
  • Effective leadership style with ability to coach, mentor, train & develop staff
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced sales distribution environment
  • Experience of managing a logistics budget
  • Experience of using route-planning software
  • Strong computing/PC skills (including MS Office products & outlook)
  • Experience of conducting vehicle checks, maintaining vehicle records
  • Strong grasp of general health & safety principles including manual handling

Desirable:

  • Holder of Forklift licence (Counterbalance/Pivot Steer)
  • Knowledge/experience of packaging or similar related consumable items
