Job Description

A leading food manufacturer is looking for a Machine Operators / Production Operatives to work on the premises of its modern, automated, and clean site in the centre of Gloucester.


RECRUITING NOW FOR JANUARY 2025
following and assessment in November and induction in December.


PAY:
starting at £16.01 flat rate on 4 on 4 off pattern raising to up to £19.58 depending on the role, skills and experience + overtime if applicable


HOURS:
Mix of 12 hrs days and nights shifts on a pattern, however you must be fully flexible.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use appropriate material handling equipment to move product and materials from and to designated locations to support bulk activities in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Running machinery/equipment to meet targets
  • Quality checking the product
  • Collecting data from the line and recording it accurately
  • Ensuring the production area meets strict hygiene standards
  • Packaging the product
  • Conducts and adheres to cleaning and allergen control regimes
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures relating to product age and quality.


PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • National school leaver qualifications in Reading and Comprehension, Writing and Mathematics.

The ideal candidate for this role will have some experience in a Manufacturing/Production role, preferably within the food industry however training will be given.

  • Applicant must be a committed team worker with a strong sense of responsibility and good attention to detail.
  • IT Skills- Must be competent in the use of basic software.

Shift: 5 days a week-Monday to Saturday, with shift rotation

Modern Paper is a Tissue Paper Converting & Manufacturing company based in South East London. We serve the consumer market with toilet rolls and kitchen towels via cash-and-carry outlets and other retailers.

The team at Modern Paper brings decades of international experience in the professional hygiene and tissue paper conversion business.

Our state-of-the-art, fully equipped hub is centrally located to the East of London. This 4.5-acre facility is equipped with two brand new converting lines which are capable of producing 20k tonnes of paper product per annum.

The Role

The Machine Operator will be responsible to set up and operate equipment that performs paper converting functions such as rewinders, packaging machines, bundlers, napkin lines, multi-fold towel lines, and ancillary equipment such as overhead cranes & fully automatic palletizing lines. The holder of this role will report directly to the Production Supervisor and Production Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Machine Operator you will be working in a production area and your duties will be as followed:

  • Operate and ensure that the machine is running at optimum level.
  • Produce and package products according to specifications.
  • Identify and react to production problems (raw materials shortages, out-of-spec materials, quality issues, etc.)
  • Perform quality checks to monitor the physical characteristics of the product and take corrective action as needed.
  • Perform setups and changeovers as needed.
  • Make machine adjustments using basic hand tools.
  • Report on production information including down-time and other completing production shift reports accurately.
  • Monitor equipment, perform resets, replenish, and troubleshoot assigned areas of the line as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and assist with machine clean-ups as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Comply with directions from supervisors and managers.

About you:

As a Machine Operator you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Previous Machine Operator experience is essential, 1+ years of experience in production, manufacturing, and/or machine operations is a plus (full training is provided)
  • Ability to control machine PLC control panels to operate machines
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, twist for up to 8 hours and lift up to 25 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and teamwork
  • Flexibility and good at timekeeping
  • Ability to work 5 days a week – Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per shift (1-hour unpaid break incl)
  • You will be able to travel to DA8 2AT, Erith
