Job Description

This role reports directly to the Production Supervisor. The purpose of the role is to produce machine parts by operating a manual machine or programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine.

Duties will include:

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate quality workmanship while meeting the standard times for the assigned job. While showing a degree of flexibility and willingness to learn new skills and contribute towards continuous improvement. The candidate will also be required to;

  • Plan machining by studying work orders, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting dimensions and tolerances.
  • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Set-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, vices, tools, attachments, collets, gears etc.
  • Load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Keeping work area clean/tidy plus free from hazards.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.

Requirements

  • Have experience in a similar role.
  • Have experience of reading engineering/technical drawings and making to specification.
  • Experience in editing/proving CNC programs.
  • Have excellent communications skills.
  • Be proficient in using a variety of measuring equipment.
  • Be comfortable working in a busy environment and be able to use your initiative and plan in advance.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Be self-motivated with a good work ethic and attention to detail is essential.
