A successful candidate will be responsible leading and assisting the development of new processes and equipment to support manufacturing.

The Job you will do:

  • To assist or lead in the development of new processes and equipment
  • Facilitate in the NPI process, DFM reviews and translate customers’ requirements into capable processes to achieve conforming manufactured solutions & products.
  • Participate in customer and internal design reviews supporting the operations department.
  • Understanding and translation of engineering drawings and GD&T is essential.
  • Ensure that tooling, gauging & quality requirements are considered early in the NPI process.
  • Assist in Supplier Quality Assurance activities to ensure a reliable supply of goods or services that satisfy the customer’s needs.
  • Project-manage new equipment, plant, facility and services installations.
  • Assist in the preparation of departmental budgets.
  • Compile manufacturing documentation where applicable.
  • Participate in equipment & process risk assessment reviews.
  • Assist in production process problem solving.
  • Produce written reports for Departmental Heads.
  • Always Work with due regard to health and safety.
  • Ensure that 5S principals and good housekeeping prevails within all areas of work.

About You:

  • Recognised four-year engineering apprenticeship, either Electro/Mechanical or Technical/Craft based.
  • Educated to a minimum of HNC level in Electro/Mechanical based Engineering subject
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a low-medium volume manufacturing environment.
  • 2D or 3D drawing using AutoCAD / SolidWorks, or similar package.
  • Be self-starting, proactive and highly motivated.
  • Excellent practical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good project management skills.
  • High level of flexibility.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • To be computer literate.
  • Be committed to personal development.
  • Understand and apply 5S and Lean principals.

The Role:

Your new role will be heavily involved in continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing methodologies to improve business performance. The successful candidate will have good knowledge of 8D and root cause problem solving processes. The Person:

You will enjoy Continuous Improvement processes and finding the best solution to complex problems. Knowledge of the welding process is highly advantageous.

ABOUT THE JOB:

Based at our Waukesha Bearings manufacturing plant in Glasgow, as a Manufacturing Engineer you will be primarily responsible for the creating and planning of CNC programs, utilising CAM software to control contour path machining of metal parts on automatic machine tools, coordinate required tooling and fixturing, whilst supporting our continuous improvement initiatives to positively influence our lean manufacturing efforts.

The facility has a broad range of multi-axis milling and turning centres and associated equipment, the workload being a high-mix of customised fluid-film bearings, seals and isolators with typical applications in turbo and industrial machinery, supplying customers throughout Europe and further afield.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • A technical or advanced trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field
  • Over 5 years’ experience in a similar role, within a precision engineering work environment
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing philosophies and tools
  • Must be fluent in CNC programming and have strong skills in various Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience and working knowledge of CNC Controls such as FANUC and Heidenhain
  • Established experience of CAD/CAM software such as FeatureCAM, EdgeCAM, Vericut


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Analyses drawings, sketches and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools and machine speeds and feed rates
  • Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths
  • Analyses routings during programming stage and updates processes to guarantee CNC machine tools are used to their fullest capability
  • Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine parts
  • Create CNC Programs in line with routed operations using available software
  • Create set-up documents to supplement written programs
  • Revise and edit programs as necessary to eliminate instruction errors or omissions
  • Observe operation of machine on trial run as necessary to prove programmed instructions
  • Liaise with Manufacturing Engineers and suppliers regarding required tooling and fixturing
  • Develop and maintain standard programming guidelines for both processes and program creation
  • Eliminate hazards through sound engineering practices
  • Attend various operating meetings to support various functions throughout the organization.
  • Actively participate in the improvement process with responsibilities of assisting with any preparation work and follow up activities/action items generated from Kaizen events
  • Support “Best Practices” to achieve company goals for safety, delivery, cost and quality.
  • Support “Continuous Improvement” initiatives on safety, quality, delivery, cost and productivity using Lean tools such as A3/A4, PDCA, Standard Work, etc.
