MANUFACTURING SHIFT MANAGER

Distinction Doors is the UK’s leading composite door supplier offering bespoke, premium doors with an extensive colour palette to create wonderful entrances to people’s homes.

We have an opportunity for a Manufacturing Shift Manager to join our team, working at our site in Tankersley on a full-time (37.5 hours), leading our afternoon shift (14:00 – 22:00).

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, this role is crucial for managing our afternoon shift (14:00 – 22:00) to ensure operations run smoothly and effectively and, to ensure the team and environment are safe, compliant, and productive. You will be responsible for managing three Team Leaders across various production line departments (machines, paint shop & glazing) and will provide them with the support, direction and development to ensure output targets are met, quality standards are adhered with focusing on a right first-time approach and, enabling collaborative working with our warehouse and support functions. Key responsibilities include:

Team Management:

  • Responsible for the full afternoon shift line management responsibility for Team Leaders in Prep (machines), Paint and Glazing Departments.
  • Lead the team by the Management by objectives process (MBO’s), to include setting objectives, action planning, KPIs and review.
  • Reporting on performance and progress of the shift to all stakeholders. Start and complete shift in a timely organised manner.

Product Quality

  • Ensure product is produced to the right quality, adhering with internal and external quality standards.
  • Lead the team to drive out waste and scrap.
  • Identify and prevent re-occurrence of failures to reduce cost of poor quality and to ensure product gets to the customer right first time.
  • Enable cohesive working with our Quality Team, ensuring good relations between operations and QC.

OTIF (On Time In Full)

  • Drive schedule adherence and OTIF to 100%. Understand failures and have clear plans to act for improvement, to ensure all customer orders are met on time every time.

Operational Productivity

  • Drive manufacturing efficiencies to be best in class through effective people, process and product control on the shop floor.
  • Move resources where necessary throughout the shift to achieve the plan.

Continuous Improvement

  • Create a continuous improvement culture and identify opportunities by applying lean manufacturing principles to drive out non-value-added time and tasks.
  • Spot issues throughout the shift and take actions to resolve them.

Business Process

  • Implement the correct compliant business processes to the correct standard.

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Ensure rigorous compliance to standards set.
  • Ensure workplace is safe and clean throughout the shift.
  • Enable cohesive working between operations and our HSE Team.

Education & Knowledge

  • Experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • A proven track record of people management and delivering strong results through a team in a people management role.
  • A proven track record of change management.
  • An understanding of HSE within a manufacturing environment and the ability to work proactively and cohesively with HSE stakeholders.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Barnsley, S75 3DH: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Manufacturing: 2 years (preferred)
  • Management: 1 year (preferred)
